Well here we go again for my 4th project in as many years. Sold my 2015 4runner to pick up a 2011 MGM crewmax 5.7. It has 275k miles, it’s pretty crusty and needs some love. Previous owner had put some toytec 2.0’s and method wheels on it along with some other cosmetic things. But it’s gonna be in need of some maintenance.

I’ll try to document most of the repair work and mods here as I’m sure I’ll run across some interesting situations. I’ve always appreciated forums over the years in the knowledge they provide.

    The initial plan:
    • Swap wheels and tires for 17’s and 37’s
    • get rid of the Toytec front coil overs for something a little bigger, probably rebuild the front suspension completely.
    • Rebuild the rear toytec 2.0’s
    • New rear leafs
    • New grill
    • Audio package and sound deadening
    • Head gaskets(preventative) as it doesn’t look like it’s had an issue yet.
    • Radiator, water pump, timing guides etc when the head gaskets are done.
I’m sure more will come up, I’ll try and keep it updated as I go through it. Here are a couple initial pics.

Was able to get the wheels and tires sold a couple weeks ago and found a sweet deal
On some Icon Hulse in double black. I picked up another deal on some 37’s but I true to form for me I got way too excited by the deal and probably should have bought something a little quieter lol. These will be for sale locally soon, fortunately I live in a big Jeep area so I don’t think I’ll have an issue getting rid of the them. I have some at’s in route and the relentless fan bmc plates should be here this week.

I reached out to toytec for some info about their shocks, the ultimate decision was to ditch the 2.0’s(ended up giving them to the guy who bought the wheels) and go back with 6112’s. Got them installed along with one new caliper, one new lca as I had to cut a bolt out. New hub and wheel bearing on one side and new rotors and pads. Also I cleaned up some of the surface rust on the frame and painted it with rust reformer.

A little before and after, I didn’t know a backing place could rust away that bad.
