Just bought a '16 Tundra TRD Pro. I'll be adding 35" BFG KO2s on the stock TRD 18" wheels and was looking to squeeze out some more power.

Anyone running either of these programmers? Which one would you recommend? What gains did you see?

    Thanks in advance!

I just saw them use a Hypertech Max Energy 2.0 on a GMC on truck tech TV show. Looks very nice, but don't think they have one for Tundras. :(

The Max Energy looks like a better unit.

    Oh one or two.
I have the interceptor on my 2016 that I'll sell you. I'm getting a super charger soon so I won't need it:cool:. I do get the MAF code that @Sean266 was referring too but only when towing from what I've noticed.

bullydog doesn't calibrate the speedo, but neither does the hypertech interceptor, you have to get their calibrator.

That said, hypertech is more likely to throw codes, but not because of calibration issues, it's hardware issues. I've seen the hardware issues substantially improve over the years though.

I can sell them for $320 shipped all day long.

    Thanks @Sean266

When throwing codes what is it doing? I will be contacting you soon within the next few weeks. I have a BA budget muffler and very interested in the HT since I will be towing a lot more things now and need the extra boost of power.

What kind of hp increase will either tuner give the 5.7? The 5.7 gets its hp at 5600 rpm and torque at 3600. Most people don't drive at those rpm's. But I bought it for the reliability.

I'm running the ht on my '15 sr5. Still throws the maf code once in a while, but goes away. I was going to go bullydog, but it wasn't available for the non flex 5.7.

@dirtydeeds Keith - my tundra outside of getting dirty to get to hunting/ camping spots/ /mountain bike spots and snowboarding lodges, a few trips out on the beach, it is essentially a daily driver and boat puller. Not even a mall crawler because it's not lifted. Lol.

Is the bully dog worth the coin? Can I expect any "real feel" hp/tq gains? What about mpgs?

The tundra is already a tremendous improvement over my old 2005 Sierra and I'm not looking to smoke the motor because of a $500 tuner that tickles my bag a little when I step on the go pedal.
Just interested in your opinion on it. I'm also not super charged. 14 5.7 non-FFV.

Even if there wasn't a gain on the dyno and at the track, it would be worth just for the way it makes the truck drive. You notice it in everyday driving. Not just full throttle.

The bullydog changes the character of the truck to feel more performance oriented. The additional hp and tq is literally a bonus.

Yes according to HTs we site, the HT changes the power curve so you have 300 hp at 2200 rpm instead of 125 hp and 325 hp at 3000 instead of 5200. That's on the 2013. 2014 would be better.
So is the BD worth the xtra money?? anyone have either for sale used??

Hypertech works on any 4.6 or 5.7 ever built.

BullyDog has limited support. They offer a tune for more 07+ but not all yet.

Just want to get this clarified. When you say the bullydog works on all 5.7l flex or non. Is this the BDC programmer or the GT. I've been scouring the web and most everything I've seen, including the the BD website says it will not work on non supercharged, non flex fuel 2015 5.7l Tundras

If you have a 2nf gen flex fuel, you may think twice about getting a bully dog tuner. Thier software does not have updated programming that fixes the flex fuel issues. The program they use will eventually cause your truck to think it's running ethanol and the only way to fix it is a trip to the dealership.

I've made so many calls to them about it, but they don't seem to care. I can't speak for 3rd gens.

So if you've got a 2nd gen flex fuel, your best bet is the hypertech tuner.

I loved the bullydog and was so disappointed that they wouldn't fix this. It really makes the truck fun to drive.

I'm planning to get another hypertech tuner. I sold my first one.
