Anyone have experience with one or another for our tundras?

Does it make that much of a difference if a aftermarket wheel is hubcentric vs lugcentric?

I’d like to hear from members and their experiences.

    Thanks in advance!

Hub centric all the way. Far superior in regard to strength and ensuring the wheel is properly centered.

OE aluminum wheels are hubcentric. They transfer load from the wheels to the axles via the hub flange instead of the lugs, while maintaining hubcentric balance. The lug nuts are there to hold the wheel face to to hub face instead of transferring load. Most quality wheels offered for our platforms are going to also be hubcentric, part of why they are typically more expensive.

I’ve seen a few guys running lugcentric wheels that have had balance issues.

I believe that the OE steel wheels on the SR platform are lug centric. Somebody please correct me if I am wrong about that. They use a different lug nut and twice the torque to tighten them - I’m assuming because they are lug centric.

Even so, I would stick to a hub centric wheel. I see zero downsides except maybe cost, and only benefits. But any 5x150 wheel is going to cost a little more due to the limited market for them.

Thank you! I agree, it’s been hard finding a hubcentric wheel.

I have read that about the steel wheels. I hope someone can confirm our suspicions.

the hub bore for our wheels from what I have read is 110.1, but so many aftermarket wheels are 110.5 or 110.2. I guess based on some mechanics I’ve spoken to, they said that makes it lug centric; for the exact reasons you outlined.

my fear is the dreaded vibration at 60mph.

Makes sense, most hubcentric wheels I have seen are more expensive and that probably is why. Manufacturing is more tight too I imagine and increases costs.

In this case, 110.2 and 110.5 = 110.1 = hub centric. They are hub centric. TRD OR wheels prior to 2014 said 110.1, but 2014+ say 110.5 if I’m not mistaken. That’s from Toyota.

Now that is interesting cause 110.5 is larger than 110.1. I think there are members here who have that size in a newer 2.5 gen tundra without issues. Curious if anyone can chime in with that specific experience?

what are you running wheel wise?

To my knowledge most of the aftermarket wheels you mentioned, except SCS is 110.5, SCS i believe is 110.1.
