Haven't had a 'Toy' truck in a long time. I'll be using it for work mostly. But, since I'm always workin'.....

Took a chance on a dealer used vehicle ($38k with 83k miles ) in good shape. Time will tell. For work I drive a lot on highway as well as off-road to clients off-grid homes ( I service and install solar systems ). I think this will be a little bit better than my 2007 Ford E-350 van with 270k miles before it died two weeks ago ( god rest its soul ).

I do plan on putting on a ladder rack ( suggestions? ) for holding 24' & 32' ladders and am thinking about bed drawers, possibly a locking tonneau. Also want to take out the rear seats and build shelves for holding tools and some materials.

Open to most positive suggestions for a 'noob'.

    Welcome from CA.

You'll be surprised by how limited your options are to run racks with a tonneau. More options if you go with a retractable cover but still limited and you lose a little bed space with retractable.

I'm happy with my system. Elevate rails & racks with BakFlip MX4 Tri-fold.

    Welcome from Florida.

You have a lot more options than you may realize.

I have the Retrax Pro locking cover and love it. I almost did the deck system but the storage between the two was to little to justify the expense.

The best part of the Retrax Pro is it has side tide down tracks so I was able to install the OVS freedom bed rack. It's fully adjustable and can be used for kayaks, rtts, ladders and more. I have it lower than the roof line so the RTT isn't as high up. When the tent comes off I raise it up for the kayaks.

I say all that because it, or one like it would work for your application and not have that boring ladder rack look.

Good luck, congrats, welcome and post pictures.

    Welcome!

I used a Decked drawer system for years and it was great. But I switched to a CargoGlide 1500XL full extension with Milwaukee packouts and love it. No more climbing around in the bed and if I still ran a tonneau (now have a camper shell instead of the tonneau) it would mean I rarely need to open it up, too.
