How do I go about finding what to sell my truck for? NADA and KBB seem really low. I’ve added the bumpers and GoRhino sports bar w/lights. Also XSPX package. Thanks y’all!

Unless you find a buyer that wants all the add-ons you are not likely to recoup the cost of those items unless you sell them separately.

First off, no mods or customizations add value. Just the nature of the beast, because those are personalization items specific for you that have shrunk the audience that may be interested in your truck. That lowers demand, so you cannot expect to recover any of the cost of mods like lights, bumpers, etc. To get anything back from mods, you need to remove them and sell separately, otherwise you just have to accept that you're likely going to eat it on the mods.

With that out of the way, you look at what similar trucks in similar condition in your area are selling for and go off of that. KBB and NADA will give you a place to start from, but you can adjust as you see fit. You won't get the same money that a dealership will sell it for, but look in classifieds and such for private sellers and what they are asking. More importantly, look to see how long the ads have been up. Somebody can ask a crazy price and they'll sit on it for months. Those you can generally figure are overpriced as long as there aren't any issues with the truck. If you can you want to look at recently sold vehicles. Those were the ones that were priced properly.

Good information Thank You. I’ve always traded vehicles in so this will help me a lot.

Vroom and Carvana used to be decent to get price floors on your sale. Here lately customers have reported issues with these services. They haven't been making competitive offers since Rona came around. Carmax may be worth considering however; they used to be about $5K below market value.

Even trade in offers at dealerships have been lowballed lately; partially due to gas prices and partially anticipating a (used) market crash.

Take to a couple car buying services. They’re always met or exceeded whatever price I found in the guides or was Offered on trade in. They can pay more than most dealers will buy it for or offer on trade because they’re going to mark it up a set amount that they will not haggle over, and it isn’t tied to a new car transaction where they lose a little money that they want to make back selling your trade

Givemethevin.com is another service similar to Carvana and Vroom. They all should follow a similar process. You enter the vin, odo, and condition and they make you an offer at no charge. If you accept they cut you check when they get your keys. They send a truck to pick up your vehicle. Can't say how competitive they are but the used to all beat dealer trade ins.

I sold a 2015 Honda CRV through givemethevin.com. They offered me way more than I expected. The process was easy. I never contacted carvana or vroom, so I can't say how offers compared.

The best thing to do which I have done to all my Toyota’s Tacoma, 4Runner removed the mods and sold them before I traded it in. I was always lucky just to remove them and sell them.
