Sorry for adding to this forum, but I am unable to find a thread pertaining to wheel alignment for the 3rd Gen Tundras. I am having issues with feathering and would like to post my spec sheet before and after alignment in the correct thread. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you

Its the same as 2nd gen. Feathering is usually due to improper tire rotations.. do a rearward cross when rotating.. every 5k miles

I brought it in to the dealer around 1500 miles the other day as the truck had a slight drift to the left and noticed slight feathering on the outside edges.

I prefer your numbers before... people here prefer 0 camber but I actually have mine closer to -1 ..

Either way cross rotations will fix your feathering issue

My truck has consistent “lane drift” if the road has any kind of curve to it.. try to find a dead nuts flat road and see if it drifts..

Why did they make your camber worse than it was before?

Looks like they made it worse...not sure what the factory numbers are supposed to be but for any sort of lifted trucks camber should be closer to 0 or -.1, caster as close to 3 as you can get and toe .12 or so.

I’m going to be honest with you, it drives completely different, and it feels as if there is 80lbs or pressure in the front tires, and I’m riding on ice, the least little bit of correction on the steering wheel while driving is already over steering.. I hate it,. And I agree with blizz86 as I have consistent lane drift, whichever the lane does or slightest degree in slope of any sort, the steering wheels moves to that side fast, not slowly. It’s hard to explain, .. Before , if you moved the steering wheel to correct, it would stay that way longer or return slowly. What do I do at this point? This is my first tundra and it’s brand new with only 1600 miles on it and had 20 when I bought it.? I appreciate everyone’s help as I know you guys have more experience with these Tundras and professional help..

Take it back to the dealer that did it and tell them to try again...

Danman34, I only brought it in for slight feathering and slight drift to the left. I specifically instructed them to only adjust if it was out of specs. If it was close, don’t adjust it.

It wasn't out of spec and they just made it way worse. I'd make them put it back where it was.

Joonbug, I’ll make an appointment and say just that. I could deal with the way it was before, definitely not now, it just wears my arms down correcting back and forth back and forth..

Conlons26, So What you are saying is that my geometry numbers before adjusting were nearly correct? How about toe and thrust angles in the rear? Or is that total overall degrees? Anyone can chime in .... I’m all ears!

Yes. Your alignment was far better than it was before than the after. Don’t know what they were thinking but obviously didn’t know wtf they were doing. Rear isn’t goin to change since it’s a non steering solid axle.

Yes that’s what I was thinking about the rear differential being it is a solid axle.

I almost forgot to mention, after my alignment, I drove it down the road and my steering wheel was off just a few degrees or so and I called and took it straight back to the dealership. I thought to myself, here goes another 2 hours sitting in the waiting room being they have to straighten the steering wheel, then realign the front end again. I sat in there less than an hour. They said, well, you’re all set to go, I said, wow that was a fast alignment. The guy said, oh no, we didn’t realign it, we just adjusted the steering wheel... Does that make sense? I’ve never heard such a thing before. I know back in the day before air bags came into play, we would just take the steering wheel off and set it on straight !

Steering wheel is a simple toe adjustment. Don’t need to touch the cam bolts for that. Cam bolts adjust the actual alignment. Toe is adjusted with turning the outer tie rods.

Well, just got off the phone with the stealership and told them my steering wasn’t right. They said” well it’s within specs”. I said, I’d rather the steering be the way it was because it has lane drift severely. Does anyone else have that problem? Before the alignment, it would hold the road well, just slight drift to left. Thanks for everyone’s input, I don’t mean to beat a dead horse...

what a bummer, did they ever show you what the allowable specs were? they can vary between wheel and tire set ups even between stock vehicles, i.e. a standard SR5 has different size tires than one with TRD off road pkg so the specs would be slightly different im pretty sure. i would kindly ask them to show you and if they say no i would raise hell and ask to speak the the service manager...then never go back again.

Conlons26, no they never did, just a before and after adjustment. Problem with going somewhere else is. , it’s either 125 miles away to Charleston, or 100 miles the other way to Wilmington . Possibly one in Florence, I haven’t looked it up yet.

Yikes, i wouldn't waste the gas to go back, see if you can find a local tire shop with good reviews and take it to them. They will all have the correct factory specs, take your dealer alignment report to them and ask them to look at it first before they do anything...i have literally nothing positive to say about any dealership i have ever been to, for service or purchase (they must exist somewhere). i had a 2010 double cab i purchased brand new from a dealer here in Raleigh, when my breaks started pulsing at 18k miles when i took it for service i asked them to check it out, they had the nerve to call me back and explain to me that the rotors were warped and they could preform the service to correct it while it was there for $298...18k miles. the guy treated me as if i didn't know what a screwdriver was, they ended up doing it for free and i never went back. oh and when i ordered the truck it was supposed to be white, it came in pyrite mica (brown), idiots...:annoyed:

Well, I’m at the dealership this morning on my day off trying to get my front end re-aligned. I pretty much hit a brick wall as I told them I do not like the way it drives, meaning, it feels “light” in the steering wheel and there is no control. I said, just put it back where it was, it was a joy to drive beforehand. They said” sir” , once it was aligned, we cannot put it back again, there’s no going back. If it leaves here out of spec and it causes tire wear, then we will be responsible for tires.” We went on and on, and finally gave them the keys and sat in the waiting room. Shortly, the manager came out and said” let’s go have a talk”, I thought, this ought to be interesting. “ He was friendly and basically said the same thing, we cannot go out of specs being reason it will cause abnormal tire wear, blah blah blah. Well he finally said, I will have my shop manager to take it for a test drive and see if we can do any adjustments to it, “ if any”. I said, it has too much camber because I feel like I’m driving on ice, there’s no control , always correcting and then it’s over correcting the least little not. . I told him, “ well if there is no adjustments , I’d rather not be here and waste your time or mine. He never responded. So I’m now in the waiting room. I guess we will see. Been here I’d say an hour now. ....

Don’t know if all Toyota dealers are the same, but they have 3 bays you pull up to with a red x on the far left above the door, and 2 green ones on the right above the center and right door for service. As I pulled up to the 2nd door, it opened up , I pulled in as they flagged me inside, then I stopped. The guy said” Do you have an appointment “ ? I said, yes, or I wouldn’t have pulled inside here.. he said, you’d be surprised.
Sorry guys, I’m just aggravated and rambling this morning. Thanks for listening to my problems with the Tundra.
