Hello, I was wanting to purchase a 1794, Capstone or Platinum with AVS for smoother towing. I have a Range Rover Sport 5.0 v8 right now with air suspension and dropping down/out of the hitch is pretty nice. The Tundra would replace that. There are A LOT more options in the used market without the AVS, so I am wondering how much of a benefit the air shocks are? My camper is smaller, in the 5500K lb range loaded up. Also I would rather NOT use weight distribution hitch. I do have one, but haven't needed it with the RR because it is discouraged with the air suspension.

If you had to pick between Hybrid or Air suspension, which would you choose?

For towing, I would go with Hybrid and add helpers.

These things squat so easily w/o air bags, its ridiculous. AVS wont move an inch and its very comfortable. Downside is that if a bag ever pops, youre dead in the water...with coils you can at least limp it home

Id take the AVS/Air leveling in a heartbeat (matter of fact, I did, lol), there is no pulling power problem with the non hybrid at all.

the AVS/Load level is super nice and a benefit in all types of situations, not just towing

Does the factory AVS airbag completely replace the coil spring?

I added Airlift Ultimate bags and have the hybrid. And it tows like a dream.

I ask about the factory system, because with the airlift, even if a bag did burst (extremely low chance) I could still pull it but would sag some even though I've got a weight distribution hitch.

It does...Ive not seen any oem bag failures...only one guy who had done some sort of lift and it popped offroad or something. Chances of popping a bag are slim...but it does happen.

Just out of curiosity, why would you have to choose between hybrid and AVS/LL?

Avs will do nothing for towing. Airbags will. Two separate systems.

    I like the air bags.

I thought the AVS is rear leveling? No?

Load leveling is rear air ride....AVS is Adaptive Variable Suspension...aka electronically adjusted shocks/struts.

You can get a truck with LL and no AVS.

Well this is really helpful information!
I have not seen load leveling listed out on the Tundras I’ve been looking at (capstone, 1794, platinum). Would you know if it’s included in the AVS package then?

yes, A truck that has AVS has bags and load level, you can get just the load level air system on the lower trims but can't get AVS on anything under the platinum/1794 which are equal trims
