I’ve been playing around with Brake Hold feature. I assume it’s for use in heavy traffic with long stops and long chick fillet drive through’s lol…..curious if and how you guys use it?

I only ever use it in drive throughs with long lines or at stop lights that I know lasts for a while.

I’ve gotten used to it. I have half city and half highway driving for work and I use it in the city part. I love it. I can just rest some at red light and there’s no lag when I get going from stop.

How does it work? Does it use the hydraulic brakes or the electric parking brake?

Hill hold is kind of nice on a steep ramp to a parking garage, etc. I'm assuming hill hold works the same as brake hold.

yeah probably same, would work well on hills…uses regular brakes, not parking brake

I like also that it works when you are stopped on a downhill. Use mine all the time, allows quick pull outs when entering highway or leaving from stoplights.

Funny enough I was clueless on how it worked in the beginning. Thought I had to turn it on and off each time I wanted to use it then realized I can just leave it turned on after I press the button and it'll hold anytime I come to a stop. Definitely cool stuff.

I had no idea what this feature did, I had to look it up in the owner's manual. I have to yet to use it, I keep forgetting it's there, cool feature though.

I must have missed that section in the manual too. I still have no idea.

Anyone care to explain for a guy who is too lazy to dig his manual out?

I hadn't really used it before either, I saw the button above the electronic parking brake and just assumed it was connected to that system which it is not....basically if you turn it on it will keep your brakes applied after you've came to stop and then will disengage the bakes as soon as you push on the gas pedal. My truck is a daily driver and I'm in heavy traffic with long stop lights often so Ive found it pretty conveniant in those situations. As someone else mentioned it would probably be helpful on hills in similar situations.

Thanks. Meh..I don't see myself using that feature at all. I do like the auto e-brake, however.

I thought it was part of the e-brake as well, so I ignored it for months.

I like the e-brake too. It took me a while to get used to it. I really like it when I park on an incline, when I'm towing my trailer, and when I'm trying to hook up my trailer and don't want the truck to roll 3" after I shift into park.

Our driveway is on a fairly steep grade. We have horses, so we have to get out to open and close a gate. The auto e-brake is a transmission life-savor for those moments. Absolutely no roll back and no typical "clunk" from the transmission gears engaging.

I just started using this feature. I like it. Just wish I didnt have to turn it on each time I start the truck.

Next time you’re at a stoplight and the f-150 pulls up beside you looking frisky… apply the brake hold, while the traffic light is still red, put it in sport mode and tow-haul +. When the light turns green just put it to the wood and you’re off….

.. or just use adaptive cruise (assuming you're ok trusting the tech)?

I love the brake hold assist and use it multiple times a day around town or in traffic.
In fact, on my new owner survey, I chose it as the 2nd most useful tech feature for me, right behind CarPlay.

I remember one of the early Subarus we had, early 70s I guess, it was manual shift and had the Hill Holder feature. At the stop going up a hill, you pushed the brake hard with the clutch depressed and then your right foot was free to move over to the gas pedal. When learning stick as a kid, that was a dang handy feature. The Tundra Hold feature reminds me of that and days long ago.

Hydraulic brakes, same as the auto braking system that keeps you from running into stuff.

I was playing with this yesterday, pretty cool, like cruise control for traffic.

Same, I'm actually using all the time now and find it to be a great feature. I would like it to just stay on all the time but at least the on/off button is in a convenient location by the shifter. They should have placed the on/off button for the engine auto off function right to this button. Also I recently noticed the brake hold feature is actually linked to your seatbelt being engaged for it to work as well.

Question. Does this feature also work in Reverse? And does it allow you to shift from Reverse to Drive when it's engaged?

If so, I'm thinking it would be useful for launching, or hauling out, a boat at a ramp.

I was wondering about this too and meant to try it. Thanks for the reminder, I'll try this soon and let everyone know unless someone beats me to it.
