So as you know I recently moved into my house. I I'm trying to figure out what kind of home security system to have in my house. Mind you I do not have the money for somebody to sit here and monitor my security system like ADT or Vivint.

Now yes I could technically afford to pay for their services right now that I have to think about when I no longer and working full-time with the military because once that happens I will no longer be able to afford the luxuries in life like i am now.

So I'm looking at ways to protect my children, myself and my house....

    1. Motion Detector lights in front, sides and back yard

    2. Motion detector cameras that can record

    3. Upgraded locks for the doors

Etc..... anything to make my house like Fort Knox because there is/are certain people I do not trust AT ALL and don't want something to happen they may have been able to be prevented.

Any help, guidance, thoughts etc are very welcome! Thank you!

Simply safe has several items that are easy to install and no monthy monitoring. I put motion lights that talk at our lake house and they will freak anybody out. Drive way sensors are great too if you have a side drive. They are pretty cheap and work a good distance. One thing I think most people forget to protect is the garage and sense most attic entrance is via the garage....makes great sense to put motion detection on the garage door or alerts if left open. Sounds weird but try to think like a criminal pay attention to windows that are blocked by trees or architecture designs of your house that create niches or shadowed spots. I agree the ring doorbell is neat feature.
    Good luck.

Cut down bushes (used to hide in)
Meet and get to know your neighbors
Solar lights (they look great too, and criminals hate Light)
    Dog (noise)
    Start a neighborhood watch program
    Ring spotlight camera
There are other alarms out there where you can pay like $8/mo for monitoring.
Get some alarm yard signs and decals for windows (Amazon) and place those where you want
Cheapo window security alarm (Amazon, Walmart, etc)
Use a stick or something behind windows to prevent them from being slid opened.
My last house I had nice lights for the porch that had a motion sensor built into it and looked great.
Put tape over your attic entrance. This way, you can see if someone’s been (or is) in there as the tape isn’t sealed any longer.

I skip motion lights and just bathe the house in dusk to dawn lights

LED and no real change in power bill, plus no chance of anyone skirting around it

My neighbors know my vehicles and are home all the time as they’re retired

forgot to mention that motion lights are great but they work very well for both parties, if you can see them come on and take a peek you are good, however when you are sawing wood at 0336 the likelyhood of seeing it come on is slim to none. burglars know this and dont mind seeing what they are stealing (you helped them at this point in time). i do enjoy having the motion alarms as they provide a joint effort between a light and a sound.

unfortunately a tricked out playa in a hoody is very difficult to identify from your home surveillance cameras in the middle of the night unless you have super high quality cams with good optical zoom and a great motion light to light the idiot up for you.

As Sean mentioned too, cut down any thick or tall bushes around the home

Active cameras that you can view from a cell phone whenever

Dogs are great but not for everyone

    See fine print
    Ring - doorbell/cameras/light cameras
    Nest - doorbell/cameras
Arlo - complete wireless cameras so no cabling needed. Just change the battery packs every 3-6 months.
If you can afford an monitored alarm get Frontpoint.
