Hit a deer....need front bumper...:how much weight is safe to carry?

I have an 07 CrewMAX with basically new TRD Yellow Bilstein takeoffs suspension up front

I hit a deer on my way to work this morning and need a new front bumper

What is a safe amount of weight to carry and will I need to upgrade my front suspension to keep from having issues?

I am looking at blemished Fab-4 and Ranch Hand bumpers.

I haven’t looked at the specs for the Fab-4 yet,but the Ranch Hand weight is about 250lbs

 

You'll want to figure out your net weight gain. Aftermarket bumper weight minus the stock bumper components removed = net gain.

Usually you need a little beefier spring, or a higher adjustment on aftermarket front coilovers to accommodate the increased weight.

 

Good input Thanks! I’ve begun looking around. I do know that I don’t want to lift anything or deal with Alignment/suspension issues....so I may just keep it stock depending on what I find out

 

Going with an upgraded front suspension that is set for an aftermarket bumper would result in little to no lift. It would lift the front with a stock bumper, but the added weight of the new one brings it back down close to stock height.

 

Check with the manufacturers on the weights to verify. For example, on my Road Armor rear bumper, the site says 225 lbs. I called them....225 is the shipping weight. The actual bumper weight is 145 lbs. My front RC bumper is 110 lbs.

 

Stock bumper with chrome caps is 66lbs, or 55lbs with the plastic caps.

 

On my '07 Tundra I had the RanchHand Summit Bullnose (188 lbs) with the stock suspension. Was fine, didn't need to get stiffer springs.

I just decided today to get a new Ranchhand front bumper to match my rear bumper. I’m looking at the same one. What’s the pricing in your AO look like? I haven’t priced them in three years, I guess they have gone up in price. Hope you get what you want.

New prices are about $1,000-$1,200

used prices range from $200-$500

 

As of right now the preliminary insurance estimate to fix my bumper and fix a few other things is right about $1900-$2000. If you take out my $500 deductible that nets me about 1500 bucks. Should I just have a factory bumper or aftermarket bumper put on and have it painted etc. or should I get the bumper that I want and use the rest of the money to have my whole truck repainted? I can get a used RanchHand like the above picture for $300

My hood open and closes just fine if I manipulate the latch, and none of my headlights or damaged in the collision. It is strictly the bumper. I figure I can take it off and put whatever Bumper I want such as the RanchHand on myself without problem. It’s only four bolts per bracket

My wife complains she will hardly be able to drive my truck if I put such a bumper on there. I want to keep the peace LOL but after all it is my truck.

 

If adding a bumper would make it undrivable then her ability to drive at all is in question. It adds a little length, but not enough that should matter, because you should never be getting that close to anything anyway.

In the end, only you know your situation and your livable disruptions.

 

I agree. She said She would much rather me just have a brush guard without bumper. I agree the dimensions are almost the same,and getting 1cm away from things isn’t good driving.

The guy who painted my 06 Tundra Double Cab said he would paint my 07 CrewMAX for $1,500 and that includes my camper top as well.

Brushguards are useless and are actually damage multipliers so you can counter her argument there. To be honest that ranch hand vertical headlight guard stuff would fold from a deer impact as well. If you really want headlight guard hoops that are deer proof, look at SHROCKWORKS.

 

Ranch Hands are used on our work trucks, and there are LOTS of animal strikes. You are correct about the brush guards, but you are incorrect on the bars on the bumpers. True, they will bend a bit on impact, but they preserved a lot of the truck in the process. Elk, deer, antelope, and cattle have been hit, and they have prevented the trucks from being totaled in some cases.

 

I don’t really care if it’s going to stop a deer or not. I simply like the look better than a factory plastic bumper.

Yes I understand you can have damages either way,but that’s part of life.

 

I stand corrected lol. You're in wyoming so i'll take your word for it. Theres a few other companies that use the same diamter tubing for hoops as their frame that you may like as well: demello, c4, relentless

Don't have parking sensors, nor do I need or want any. Personally I don't like bells and whistles, I also don't like society being dumbed down with artificial intelligence. Definitely miss the days when most people knew how to drive and those who didn't stayed off the road. 2021 and all my vehicles are heavy steel, run on 100% gasoline, get about 10-20 mpg, and I am the only person who wrenches on them aside from tire mounting. I don't care how many wires are on anything, if it's a naturally aspirated combustion engine, I can and will push all that crap aside and fix it when the need arises. That's why I own my truck as is.

Well i got a few estimates and it looks like I’ll be getting a check for almost $2,100 from the highest estimate across town

Helpful local guy whom i trust said it was just bumper damage and I could do whatever I wanted with the money. He recommended getting the front end however i wanted it to look,and living with a few small imperfections on my used pick em up truck. He recommended looking on FB,Craigslist,and Amazon for bumpers.
