My in-laws have a timeshare on the island and I'll be down there for about 10 days near the end of March. I'd like to get out and fish if possible. Saw there are a couple different options for "party fishing" cheap, and looks like black drum at the big targeted fish on the party boats, can't image the catch rate is real high but it's only $65 for a 6 hour trip. Price gets pretty expensive pushing $800 for a half day on a private charter. Has anyone done any charter fishing near the island? Any recommendations?

I did a redfish trip by kayak when I was there last. There was one other guy and myself both on the trip. It wasn't advertised as fly fishing, but by coincidence, we both wanted to use fly gear. Figured the guide could put us on fish, and I could handle the rest. Ended up neither of us caught a fish. The guide caught one tiny blacktip shark on frozen shrimp. That's the sucky part about paying a guide when they don't put you on fish...

If you can find one, go for the Gulfstream trip. They're usually a 12 hour trip but you spend 3 hours riding out, 6 hours fishing and 3 hours riding back. You won't regret spending a little more and a full day getting out there. Drop the line in, reel in a fish. Exhausting but a great time!

I haven't fished off Hilton Head, but there should be trips just like Myrtle Beach. When I go, I use Calabash Fishing Fleet out of North Myrtle.

Here's my last haul from my trip last June. Everyone left with a boat load of fish.

Also it was $85 per person for the full day Gulfstream trip. You should be able to find something comparable there.

Hey Mike, besides the vermilion snapper, is that amberjack and triple tail you got there?

I go out of Hatteras on a deep drop , lot's of fun and trigger is the main target along with sea bass. During late May through summer we can get lucky and catch a dolphin . They show up sometimes so I have my spinning gear ready.

Part of the industry I work in. The best ones are the offshore 6 pack charters. It can be a bit pricey, but they supply everything and cater to your needs.
