Everyone I’m sure there’s already a thread for this, but I’m curious what the highest mileage Tundra is today? I have a 2023 that is sitting on 40k and was curious what others have now.

There are 39 gen 3 with >100k miles on Autotrader. Highest currently is 158k.

I periodically look. There have been some in the 175k+ range. I don't think I have seen a 200k miler for sale yet but it's likely coming as some of the early 22s are now 4 years old

I did +50k a year for total of 5 years across a couple of power commute stints pre COVID. I can't imagine funding that commute in a truck.

One Toyota dealer where I used to live took in an 800k Camry to display upfront from a guy that did a daily 250 miles roundtrip to work.

Longest I ever witnessed was a coworker than did 360 miles a day.

There are a lot of power commuters out there

360 miles?!? Holy hell. Averaging 60 mph, that's 12 hours of driving every day. How did the dude find time to actually work?

It was 360 miles total a day but non interstate. So like 7 hours a day.

No idea. He lived in the total sticks where there were no jobs and refused to move the family.

Bet his butt was one huge callous

    That's still a lot driving.

My longest commute was a total of 3 hours, if I missed Denver rush hour traffic. Even with a company car, and fuel expenses reimbursed, that got old quickly.

Any 3rd gen with some serious mileage has been freeway driven and has endured basically no wear and tear. Any vehicle can rack up the miles if driven exclusively on the freeway, even a lowly Mitsubishi Mirage.

sticking to the maintenance plan and replacing parts, more so than normal people with normal miles.

on his first tundra 2007 here is the list :

    Major Mechanical Components
    • Engine: The original 4.7L V8 engine was never replaced. It performed so well that after a million miles, it scored 99/100 on a quality test.
    • Transmission: While the original transmission was never replaced, it required an overhaul around 792,000 miles due to issues with third gear.
    • Alternators: The truck went through a total of three alternators over the course of a million miles.
    • Water Pump: The water pump was replaced once during the truck's life.
    Other Components
    • Tires: Sheppard went through approximately his 10th set of tires at the million-mile mark, averaging 100,000 miles per set.
    • Blower Motor: The blower motor for the HVAC system was replaced with an eBay-spec part.
    • Door Actuators: Two door actuators were replaced.
    • Handbrake Ratchet: The handbrake ratchet was replaced at some point.
    • Glovebox Latch: The glovebox latch was replaced with a part from a junkyard.
    • Seat Back Motor: The motor for the driver's seat back recliner was replaced.
    Key Takeaways
    • Routine Maintenance: Sheppard followed Toyota's recommended maintenance schedule, including oil changes every 10,000-12,000 miles at a dealership.
    • Exceptional Engine Durability: The engine's longevity was a highlight, remaining original for a million miles.
    • Minor Replacements: Most other replacements were relatively minor, such as electrical components.

on his 2nd tundra 2014 here is the list :

Parts Replaced on the 2014 Million-Mile Tundra
    • Transmission: Replaced at 780,000 miles after a period of inconsistent performance.
    • Alternator: Replaced as a maintenance item.
    • Water Pump: Replaced at some point, but not necessarily due to failure.
    • Reclining Motor: The driver's seat reclining motor was replaced at 80,000 miles.
    • Light Bulbs: Some light bulbs required replacement over the course of the high mileage.
    Parts That Remained Original
    • Engine: The 5.7-liter V8 engine remained original for the entire duration of the million miles.
    • Drivetrain: The drivetrain components like the timing chain were original, as the truck had a timing chain, not a belt that would need replacing.
    Factors Contributing to Longevity
    • Dealership Maintenance: All maintenance was consistently performed at the dealership.
    • High-Quality Parts: Only Toyota parts were used for repairs and maintenance.
    • Consistent Driving: Sheppard averaged over 100,000 miles per year, primarily for work, which also led to the maintenance of the truck.

biggest take away, expect the transmission to require major service aroun 750-800k miles

My point being they were also a lot of highway miles.

Something ain't right there. IF it was a 4.7L he should have been doing timing belts, every 60-90K depending on where you live. Almost every technician would recommend a water pump while doing the timing belt, not to mention the pullies and tensioners....minor complaint

yeah in a way, but the loads he was carrying (and i can say some were way over load spec for that bed) put that motor and components under heavy duress during those highway miles

if he wasnt doing hot shot delivery loads, some of those repairs may not have been needed

that would be considered normal required maintenance and not part of the unusual failures they wanted to know about.

Yes but to make a blanket statement in a thread that another poster did that high mileage 3rd gen Tundra's don't count because they might be highway miles is ridiculous.

Well that's fine, but don't say the water pump only got replaced once, I am sure it was replaced several times. Again minor complaint, and I would NEVER question the durability of the 4.7L motor...well done Toyota

it's almost like we are saying this guy didn't put money into these trucks. I assure he was spending a lot at the dealership service department

    yeah i get ya.

hell our 2018 tundra after 5 years, we struggled to even get 44k miles on it before trade in (actually 44,315 miles) from 11-29-2017 to 02-22-2023, 5 yrs 2 months 21 days

and the heaviest thing that truck has carried is grass clippings or 2 fat butts.

and on my 2014 4runner, i have done all the required service or replacements.

oem brakes and rotors were replaced last year after 106k miles, both axles
oem spark plugs also replaced at the same time but they could have gone another 20k miles (wasnt sure how they were using 87 octane with eth for 10 yrs)

2 batteries replaced (they dont survive -30F temps really good over 12 yrs), secondary belt replaced, 3 diff's done, cooling fluid replaced. oil changes done at 10k up to 90k then switched to 5k intervals

outside of that, its been solid, but you need to do the maintenance
