Having issues with 02 2uz-fe not passing Nox emissions. Can’t find EGR valve to check it. Does this motor not have EGR? Also my temp gauge pops to middle as soon as the engine is started, no gradual rise in temp at all, Very odd!!!

Are they giving any other info, check engine light, code pending, not passing a readiness monitor ? Cleaned throttle body and/or MAF sensor lately ?

? Sniffer test? I have put intake clean in the tank and might do a sea foam spray into the manifold to clean the valves and carbon buildup

And you're sure someone didn't just remove the check engine light bulb, and it's not burnt out? Like, you actually had it checked for codes?

I had a buddy in high school whose motor was clearly about to shit all over itself. Like, clearly it wasn't running right, and it was an OBDII car, so he could've just checked before it got too far along. Took him to the parts store to have it scanned for free. Laundry list about 14 codes long came out.

"Didn't you see a check engine light?!?!!"
"Yeah, but the car was running OK when it came on, so I pulled the bulb because it was too bright at night..."
    :boom:

What could've been a $75 fix ended with him selling the car because he couldn't afford to replace the engine.

I see the light when I turn on ignition, put my scanner on and didn’t find any stored or waiting codes.

Weird. I mean, I'd replace the temp sensor, clearly it's failed if it goes straight to center. Not an uncommon thing for those to do on fail (stick high/stick middle/stick low).

Half tank of 93 octane and a full bottle of SeaFoam followed by several short 5-10 mile trips where the truck sits for 10-30 minutes between runs should clean out things internally. Don't necessarily need to shoot anything into the intake.

Any more details on what "nox" testing is, though?

Barely a point. Last time the limit was 2.0, this year it went down to 1.6 and the truck is coming in at 2.3

hmm, its not SUPER close, I was thinking if its only a bit, running a can of seafoam or something similar may get it down a hair.

Check for small cracks in the vacuum lines. Or even a small intake leak thats not quite enough to trigger a CEL (check your long term fuel trim).

Also are the front 02 sensors original? May be good to check their response to see if they're starting to go.

Thank you, I’ll check all the hoses along with the O2 sensors take them out clean them but I’m not getting any codes which is really strange.

If you're gonna pull the upstream O2 sensors you might as well just do new ones.
Denso (OE manufacturer) on RA for about $40 each

Seeing posts like this remind me of how much I really like not having to deal with emissions testing of any kind. Good luck!
