    Hi everybody,

My name is Max, and I live in sunny SoCal. I'm about to buy my first truck, mainly thanks to the good deal my neighbor is giving me with his 05 Tundra. It's a V8, 4WD, long bed, double cab SR5 trim.

The truck hasn't been driven much over the last 6/7 years and sits in the sun, so the paint on the roof & bed cap is pretty much gone, and some rubber trims are tired/gone. Apart from that, it's pretty okay with only 90k miles. The timing belt was done at 70k miles in 2013. When moving the wheel at dead center, it creaks a bit, and the truck vibrates when hitting the brakes at higher speed (most likely the rear drums needing some attention). Those are the two main issues I identified.

The plan is to get it to a shop for a complete tune-up and then enjoy it! On that note, I was wondering if there's any particular place recommended in my area (west of LA) for this.

This forum seems to be filled with good resources to know more about the truck & how to maintain it, so I'm glad it exists!

    Cheers.

Buying one of these older trucks and having a shop do the upkeep will be expensive. These older trucks make more sense financially if you’re able to maintain and repair them yourself. Lots of resources on here to help. For example, that truck needs a new timing belt right now. That will run $1300-1800 for a shop to do. It’s around $2-300 in parts for the DIYer. Good luck with your new truck! Stick around and contribute, or just absorb the info here to help keep it out of the scrapper.
