Hey guys i crashed! air bag question

hello, long story short my dad crashed his tundra. i rebuilt it. Its in good running condition again. we ordered 2 new air bags for the front. i wasnt gona plug them in cause i honestly dont like air bags but now i ran into the seat belts being stuck which i hadnt noticed. so i guess everything has to be reset. my question is what is all that i have to do to make this truck like it was? where is the crash sensor and air bag ecu? do i have to replace them? also when is it safe to plug the new air bags and seat belts in after reset or maybe replacing sensor and ecu? thanks

 

Insurance standards all items have to be replaced. That being said there are places that can fix the control module and seat belts. I don’t know about the front sensors. Did you get a new clock spring?

 

To add to your question module is usually under the center console and the front crash sensors are mounted to the radiator support.

 

no i didnt replace the clock spring. didnt think it needed it. i pulled the rad support when i fixed it but didnt notice any crash sensors anywhere. ill have to take another look. i should have bought another tundra lmao. this thing has been costly lol

 

If the clock spring was not melted you are probably good on that. I’m sorry I cannot tell you exactly where the sensors are, may be mounted to the frame rails.

 

On the module, check eBay. Look for one with the same numbers. May even score seatbelts.

 

Its as simple as just plugging everything in? And putting the battery back on? I saw just one crash sensor by the front passensor under the intake. Is that the only one?

 

I’m not sure on 1 or 2 sensors . Yes a lot of the time it’s simple plug and play. The only bad thing is if you get a bad part it’s sometimes hard to diagnose.

 

As long as it doesnt blow the air bag in my face while plugging it in lol

 

I personally have never heard of that happening. I have however had a service writer stick his hand through the steering wheel and flip the key on of a total truck to get the mileage and boom air bag deployment and shattered wrist. It was a big deal. Sorry for the run on sentence.
