I'm wanting to paint the black surround on my grille white. Can someone help me with the proper steps. I was going to get 2000 sand paper, etching primer (grey or white), and then a gloss white top coat. I was thinking dupli for primer and paint. But if anyone as any advice, I'd really appreciate it!

I wrapped my Jeep grille, and am going to wrap my Tundra Grille also. It's cheaper and it is removable so you don't have to destroy the original, cost me $38 for my jeep and still looks good after 3 years in the Florida sun.

Get out the pressure washer and blast off the chrome. Then you do a light scuff on the plastic so its not totally smooth. Then adhesion promoter. Then your paint. Then your clear coat. I've done two chrome surrounds like this.

The pressure washer method makes one hell of a mess, don't do it!
It's almost impossible to get all of the chrome off the edges and you end up with sharp pieces of chrome everywhere.
Whoever came up with that idea needs slapped.

Painting on top of the chrome is not as good as painting on bare plastic. Just depends on level of effort one is willing to put forward. I'd rather have a long lasting paint job and something to clean up compared to paint coming off.

Its certainly doable, I've done it twice now. Any mess there was did not make much of an impression on me.

Aren’t there strippers you can use to take the chrome off?

Don't know if there is for getting it off plastic. Strong pressure washer was not too bad at all, as far as I was concerned.
