Hello all...My 2003 Access Cab was stolen on Christmas Day and was recovered with a destroyed ignition assembly...any advice on how remove the assembly from the steering column? The bolt heads appear to be smooth cones...please tell me I don't have to remove the steering column to fix my ignition! See attached pics!

I'm not sure but I believe your speaking of what Toyota calls "Column Upper Bracket" and those smooth cones are tapered-head bolts....good luck with that. As removal pic below shows, their using a bench with steeing column in vise....face palm.

Mind taking picture of actual damage and is there any chance the ignition switch is all you need to get out....pic would help to know. Instead of being able to turn key to ACC, pushing button on bottom of key cylinder, you may have to drill it out.

I sure hope this is the case. This is super easy. The other part (I have no Toyota experience, but Subaru is very similar) it sucks. We have a special tool that is almost identical as described by @BubbaW . We only have to use it when the keys are completely lost because on the Subaru the BIU is integrated into it.

For removing the barrel, this video is helpful Bing Videos

Why are you dealing with that and not the insurance company?

Yeah...if this was insured (Liability only...I'm broke) it would have been totaled because tweekers lived in it for 2 weeks...Meth, Fentanyl etc. I paid 1300 buck for the super pro drug remediation. Everything about this pisses me off...I'm the original owner, it's my baby...

This is the kind of thing that pisses me off. You work so hard to get so little and then someone still takes it away

If they’re anything like the trucks from the 90’s, they are snap bolts. I changed an entire ignition switch in my 91 Toyota PU. The bolts are designed to snap off, when the proper torque is reached. They use these to make removal of the switch difficult. To remove mine, I used a center punch and hammer to crack them loose and remove them.
