I'm in talks with a sales rep on a used 2019 Limited Crewmax TRD with 8k miles on it. They have it listed just under 43k.

Prices are dropping right now and I'm talking with another rep on an identical new one currently listed at 43,800. I think I can work the new one to 42,500 but, if I got going on the used one what do you think would be an acceptable price for it to make it worth picking it over the new?

You can get a new one for that price. That truck has a true value of around 37.5k

I agree. Just thought if the used one was dropped to a certain level lower, it might at that point be worth taking. I dont think I'll get the new one lower than 42,500. That would be 11% off MSRP + the 3k rebate. I would be out the door for maybe 45,500.

If I got out the door on the used one for under 42,000, that might be worth doing. That would be a big price drop obviously, but that truck isn't worth 43k. I don't know how much they have in it, but the previous owner has a Toyota dealership GM in his family so I'm guessing he got a smokin' deal and may have accepted a lower trade value than normal.

Was that a question or a suggestion?

I can get 3% from my credit union (lowest they go) on either of the trucks--maybe better via the dealership. My credit is high enough to get whatever the best rate is.

They won't. Buying a used tundra at that year and mileage is a financial trap. Just go new and tell them you wan 12% off MSRP. I guarantee you that deal can be had.

Toyota is also offering 0% or $3000 off MSRP.

I actually went ahead and sent them an offer 12% plus the 3k. I realized my next mustang payment is due and I'm sitting on an offer from Carvana. I need to accept it in the next couple days or make the payment. Told the rep if they can get me out the door for 45k and match carvana's offer on the mustang I'll come get it Tuesday.

Get the new one. Original owner, clean Carfax, full warranty, etc. As you’re seeing, the depreciation hit on the new Tundra isn’t as severe as other trucks. So long as you’re keeping it at least a 2-3 years you’ll never be upside down.

It sucks that you're in a rut. They might know they have you by the balls. Should have told them you want 0% financing because now they're going to just factor in the $3000 savings into the requested 12% off to match it. Once you're in finance you can tell them you change your mind and want the $3000 off instead.. Sounds like a sheisty move but they play these BS games too.

Without the 3k rebate they're currently priced at 9% below MSRP. My offer to them is 12% below MSRP plus the 3k, for a total of 17% below MSRP. Then I added my TTL plus a few hundred profit for them. I didnt specifically say I wanted 12% off. I just gave them my out-the-door price.

In the email I told the rep about my car payment and that I'm selling it if they dont take my deal. I meant it. I want rid of the car before I have to pay on it again. If they don't take my deal I'll move on next week. I have another vehicle to drive so I don't have to rush. Just figured I would give it a shot since it's the end of the month.

If it's within a few thousand it's better to get a new one 100% of the time.
