    Hi Everyone,

I am hoping to purchase a Tundra in the next week and was hoping for some guidance when it comes to price. Some much needed context, I am located in Southern California so pricing on used vehicles tends to be 5%-10% higher than the other states I have searched in.

With that said I am looking for a 2017+ CM 4x4 with less than 30,000 miles. In my weeks of searching I haven't found a ton of options that meets that criteria within my price range. However I did stumble upon this one, 2018 CM 4x4 Sport package, with 13K miles on it.

    Listing Here

I am a fan of the paint matched grill surround and front/rear bumpers. Also the truck is a CPO which has its added benefits. Is this a good deal? Hoping some Southern California Tundra owners can chime in here.

I think thats a good deal with the link you posted. I recently bought my truck for what I think was a killer deal. 2017 Platinum CM White came with aftermarket wheels, spray in bed liner w/a bed mat, and all weather mats with 21,000 miles and I got it for 37,890...... Got mine from a Lexus dealership in Ontario, CA.

I would check Costco price on the new 2019 model year. They give great deals and the 2019 will be sold as last years model. If your thinking a newer model year like 2018, I would recommend getting a new one through Costco. You’ll pay a bit more but I’m willing to bet it’s not as much as you would think. You’ll also get a full warranty and knowledge of where the truck was for all those miles.

It always scares me when I see really low mileage trucks for sale that will last 500,000 miles.

My brother got a good deal on a Nissan Titan from the dealer and it had around 13000 miles. Come to find out they beat the shit out of it hauling loads of cars all around the state driven by employees who don’t care for the truck since they don’t own it.

Needless to say it has been back to the dealer a few times for stuff breaking on the interior like door handles and the plastics on the dash board.

Just be careful, get a car fax and refer to edmunds.com for going market value. I would never pay over the edmunds estimate as a general rule, new or used.

For that low a mileage, that's a good price. Just be sure to inspect well, the cam tower and look for rust, also look at the rear diff for any leaks or seepage.

Seems like a okay price. Just make sure the TSS is okay with that lift.

I've actually been in contact with a few dealers through the Costco Auto Program and the invoice is a little above my budget before taxes and fees.

    Welcome from TX!

It looks like a decent deal. Actually in reason compared to our lower cost Tundras in Texas.

Many times others with similar criteria found that buying new was not much more and had better financing terms, which can result with payments nearly the same. The Tundra linked looks nice, first ding to me is the tires. LOL They probably ride smooth but certainly could look more aggressive. Somehow complain about the tires, maybe they will come down some more.

Just for grins, see what a new 2019 or 2020 similar package is going for. New 2019's will be a year old next month, may find some great deals.

    Good Luck!

Good callout, when it comes to certified pre-owned - do you have more faith in the health of the truck seeing as it went through Toyota's inspection to qualify as a CPO?

My 2018 that was making a weird engine noise after a cam tower repair was immediately listed and sold as a CPO vehicle after the dealer bought it back from me. I know for a fact that they never found out what was causing the sound, so take that as you will...

I have always been told that the CPO inspections are not as invasive as you would think they would be. I always struggle to trust a Toyota dealership with my trucks. If I cannot perform a fix or repair on my truck then I have a few mechanic shops I will trust but never Toyota. I have seen all my local dealerships claim to perform work they never did and literally look stumped at some issues my trucks have had over the years. Needless to say they've lost my trust through a few different situations so I wouldnt say I trust a CPO truck over a non CPO truck. If the vehicle has low miles and is well cared for I usually trust the signs.

I think you can get a new 19 for a better price than the Costco deal. You should be able to negotiate like 10% or more off of MSRP.
Find some trucks in stock that you like at different dealers and then start sending out the email and see who is willing to make a deal.

Not always. A vehicle can be CPO and yet you still have to inspect. I bought a Tacoma from CarMax and the air filters were filthy. They did their inspection and yet they did nothing about it. I complained and they compensated me for the filter, but I wanted a re-inspection and they refused.

I'd wait till the last two days of the month. Especially since it's the end of 2019 and IM thinking the dealership may be paying taxes for the inventory left on the lot after 12/31

From my experience, no brand ever does anything to make a car/truck CPO worthy they just wash and vacuum that's it. Not even oil change even though they're supposed to.

I could talk a lot more about simple things to look for but I'll post the link instead use it as a checkbox.

    # the more you know.

    Good luck
    - FYI I also found a Cement 17 PRO on that site with lowest miles but high $$$$

11,655 miles. I’m thinking on selling because I just don’t have the time to drive it and it’s a 3rd vehicle in our house, plus Tundras.com is a terrible site. every time I jump online I end up getting inspired by awesome builds and spending money on cool mods and stuff.

I've always found that the costco price is good for those who do not like to haggle or play the waiting game. If you're comparing new vs a 1-2 year old truck, shop around various dealerships, do a little negotiating, might have to do some waiting depending on who's the more stubborn one and I'm quite sure you'll find a price close to or under your budget for new.
