    Hi all -

I'm new to the sub, but I've been a long time lurker here as I learn about these wonderful trucks. I'm considering the purchase of the Tundra in the attached pics. It's about 500 miles away from me so before I invest in making the trip I'd like to vet as much as I can as possible with the experts on this sub.

This appears to be a BDS lift, but I can't tell if it's 4.5" or 7". Does anyone have a similar setup? How does this ride for normal use? I do plan to offroad a bit, but this will mostly be an everyday truck for me and my family. I have small children so I've got to ask(because my wife will) - Can small kids get in and out of this relatively easily?

Additionally, I heard from someone that this is a drop-bracket lift. Does this mean the crossmember was cut in half? Is the following true if this is the case?
    • Devalues the truck and becomes an insurance nightmare if an accident occurs where the frame's integrity becomes a question

    • It raises the center of gravity more than necessary which increases chance of roll-over in an accident. You can reduce this potentially with wider tires and adjusting the backspacers

    • adds stress to the IFS

    • Doesn't add any additional lift beyond what the tires provide
For ride quality reference, I'm coming from a BMW 3 series M sport. It was fun for a while, but a stiff sport suspension was not for us on longer trips.

    Thank you everyone.

Welcome. Yes, if it's 4x the cross member has been removed and looks like it's in the 6" range. For little kids to get and out you might need something like Amp Research power boards. Definitely raised the CG and when you start changing back spacing on wheels I would imagine you're increasing stress on wheel bearings.
There are tons of these lifts out there though.

That's why I'm torn. I know there are plenty of them out there so I'm wondering if I'm overthinking too much. Ultimately, I want the reliability of the Tundra, but am I compromising that with this lift? Is there a higher risk of rollover? I'm sorry if this has been covered ad nauseum.

You'll get a variety of opinions here, of course, on the best way to lift your truck. IMO BDS is one of the better bracket lifts. When I began researching lifts I decided I was not gonna cut out my cross member and went with coil overs and leafs for about 3- 3.5" of lift. I've never regretted leaving the cross member intact.

If you like the stance and look you are over thinking it. If it has the upgraded fox coilovers it will ride fine. My wife thinks the ride of my pro comp bracket lift with pro comp coils rides better then her escalade.

Center of gravity is higher and will not feel planted like the m car but it's not a double decker bus either. Not a point to worry about imo.

I have amp steps on my truck 6 inch lift 37s and my 5 foot wide gets in fine. My 2 year old boy climbs in fine. Getting the 6 month old in is a bit rougher but not really an issue either.

    Good luck

This bracket lift rides good. BDS is a better brand. It’s more the tires that are used.
