    Hello all!

I am planning on buy a 2005 Toyota Tundra access cab this Thursday. I will be flying out from MT to SD to pick it up. She looks pretty good from the outside but the owner sent me the photos attached below today. Do you guys think that this is too much rust? The truck has 127,400 miles, I talked the seller down to $6000, but it has a salvage title. Do you all think that I should walk away from this deal? Thanks in advance for any knowledge and advice!

I would take a higher mileage truck with less rust.

    I wouldn't walk away, I'd run.

They don't call rust "cancer" for nothing. That would be a ton of work to clean up, and it might be hiding some serious rot underneath the surface. Simply not worth the risk, IMO.

I'm no expert, though. Some of your handier 1st gen guys will have more experience and a better perspective. @Professional Hand Model @Tundra2 @bmf4069 @empty_lord

I liked it better the first way. It is Halloween, just read it as boo.

Yeah, too much rust for a salvage title at that price.

JESUS I would not buy that. Can you imagine trying to work on that with all that rust? No thanks.

Not worth it. Generally a salvage title will cut a vehicles value in half. That rust bucket isn't worth $12k

And buyer be weary. My buddy just sold his 03 Tacoma with over 360,000 miles and a host of problems that he was upfront about. I think the price was 3k. He received a call from a different guy (probably round man in his 20's) about three days later asking how to fix some things on the Tacoma. This new kid bought it for 13k and was stoked that the mileage was only 104,000. I don't know how the flipper changed out the mileage, but he straight up robbed that kid when he sold it. Hopefully he takes some legal action. Anyway, point is keep doing what youre doing and ask for advice when needed.

There are a couple scammers that try to infiltrate our local 4runner group, or members find them on Craigslist. There’s a few members that will run carfoxes and call out these scammers to make sure members don’t get had

I usually will defend a little rust on these type of posts, being from the Northeast an rust being a part of life. But dang man that's alot even for me to overlook. Top off with a salvage title. And your traveling to buy it?. no way..

You can tell whomever owned it in the past didn't give one sh$t about cleaning an rust prevention. Hard to believe the rest of it was taken care of either in that case ..

That is too much rust to fly-to-buy. In one photo you can see the backside of the rocker panel is about to rust through. The trailer hitch has rot through hole which means you shouldn't trust the hitch for any towing. The spare tire rim is rusty & compromised. Every bolt you touch on that truck will snap off & you'll have to E-Z out the broken bits. That's not a truck to buy, that is a truck you give to a kid so they learn the value of working hard to afford a good vehicle. As said above - that is not the one, unless it is being given to you for free by an uncle who will help you to work on it. Which it isn't. Keep looking.

Well, it's a good thing I bought insurance on my flight! Looks like I'm in the market again. Anyone selling?
