Headlights Replacement

Well, it's time to replace my 2001 Tundra headlights. I tried a restoration kit with minimal results. I also tried purchasing new lights online, but that was a disaster. They were broken when I opened the package. Has anybody had a good experience with a 3rd party headlight supplier, or should I just bite the bullet and go OEM?

 

I think you had bad luck. A lot of members here bought aftermarket and they were fine. Search around and you might find where they got them if they don’t answer your post.

Its been hit or miss with me, whatever you buy, run a bead of silicone around them to make sure they are watertight. I did just buy these bulbs and they are great.

I just went with OEM. I waited for a major national holiday so there'd be a 15-20% off coupon at Parts.Toyota.com and used the FREESHIP coupon ordering from one of the dealerships in Alabama who also doesn't charge tax. Look, it wasn't pretty, but I'll get another 15-20 years out of these again, but they came with all bulbs, seals, and everything else you need. Granted, DEPO and TYC do make pretty decent headlights I could've gotten for maybe half this. I just didn't want to get screwed like others have buying non-OEM.

 

I just bought a set of TYC CAPA certified from the Rock and they fit just fine.

I've used both in 1st gen tundras - TYC and OE Toyota.

The TYC are very good for the money, and fit fine. The OE Toyota lenses have a better beam. But there is a big cost difference.

Bought the TYC from rockauto.com and the OE Toyota came from an online Toyota dealer.

I purchased just bulbs from them and have been happy. They are pretty responsive to inquiries as well.

 

I saw that and tried it, broke the clips just like he did. Wasn’t able to repair. I dropped so much stuff into the housing also trying get the pc you need to remove out. Ended up buying new headlights.

Was only able to get one done 100% and just ended up buying bulbs (down below), I believe the bulbs I got are better than the projectors. No mods needed.

 

@jerryallday - I used these CO projectors in TYC housings. The reflector you have to remove is larger than the opening. I used a set of tin snips to cut the reflector in several places and then folded the cut strips in which allowed me to pull them out with a long nose pliers.

Yeah, I tried it and failed, did all that also.

I have a good Passenger side if anyone wants to buy it and a bad driver side with the broken tab that keep the hinge down hahahahaha

I also have a set of clear corners, about 1-year-old.

 

These look great for the $.

 

Almost good enough to go grab some DEPO, TYC or Eagle Eyes on the cheap, then mod them.

It'd be interesting to see if there's a better version of those H4 mini projectors around, too. But even if there is, it's probably made in the same factory

I think if someone made these with a slightly better lens which created a crisp cutoff, it'd be worthwhile.
