Stopped by a local performance exhaust shop here in Houston, TX and they had a special on the Flowmaster FX mufflers so I went ahead and got one installed. Not even a real cat back exhaust because all I did was cut out the stock muffler and have this new one welded in. It sounds awesome!! Not too loud, very little drone but when you hit it it opens up. I can feel the difference surprisingly. I now have no problems laying down two black lines when traction controls turned off! Very impressed. Has anyone else done just a muffler swap and seen a difference?

    Curse you Perry the Platypus!
I was trying to be responsible and went this route to save money. I went with the Magnaflow #12588 and could tell the difference but the drone killed me. Worst I've ever experienced. Only lasted a week before I ordered and installed the TRD system. No regrets. There is nothing wrong with just doing a muffler swap. These trucks are tuned really well so keeping your stock pipe is a good thing. Glad you are happy with your muffler. In fact, while I normally bristle at the mention of Flowmaster, I just looked up the FX muffler and saw it was straight through. Good choice!!!

EDIT **If you can post a sound clip, I'd love to hear it.

Of course! Its the economical way to go, adds sound and no adverse effect if a quality muffler is used. As mentioned, the stock flow is quite good, no reason to swap it out unless you have money to

You probably could’ve just added a Helmholtz resonator from dirty deeds and it would’ve canceled out a lot of that drone.

This is more of a suggestion for someone wanting to go that route and save a couple bucks just doing a muffler swap.

Also here in Houston and I did the same thing...got local muffler shop to cut and install the Flowmaster FX. Couldn't stand the drone so they installed a resonator. It toned it down a lot and I felt it was louder incab then out so went back to stock lol
Now, I'm waiting on my BAMuffler to come in :)

I'm a cheep guy when it comes to this subject. We just cut my muffler out all together and welded the two pipe in.

I swapped my stock muffler with a borla muffler. Couldn't be happier.

If I decide to change the exhaust, it is just going to be a muffler swap and exhaust tip. There really isn't a need to change anything else unless you want a certain look/dual setup.

I have the TRD with the TRD intake. Definitely not too loud & I have never been bothered with any droning noise. Very happy. I live in UT & never drove the truck prior to having it put on but even if I did, I am certain I would not have felt the difference. The elevation kills all naturally aspirated vehicles. That's why my other car is a twin turbo. :)

Went with gibson muffler. Had it on for about 6 months and love it. There is some drone around 60 mph but as time went on I don't notice as much. $185 with install and muffler. Saving $ all day long.;)
