I searched the forums and saw a few threads about security systems on previous generation Tundras. Has anyone added a security system to their 2022? And are there any options to alarm the Catalytic convertors?

Is the concern more on the entire truck being stolen/broken into OR is it moreso a worry on the Cats being stolen?

…also for some folks “advertising” their security system is akin to putting your vacation plans on Social Media (so the thieves know you aren’t home). …They would rather not let everyone know what system they have so folks don’t come prepared…they should be “surprised” if you will :quickdraw:

Either way I hope you find some options/ideas you are looking for.

I was actually looking at a Viper today with a glass break and tilt sensor. I am putting a cat shield underneath but with the tilt sensor I’m thinking that if they try to Jack up the truck it will trigger the alarm. I was thinking of getting it with the remote start as well because I was unsure if Toyota double backed on their recurring fee to use these services.

I know it doesn't compare to after market, but the stock one seems sensitive. I couldn't figure out why it was happening, but at least three times over the weekend I set my alarm off loading the bed of the truck. I'm not sure if I was dropping the tailgate without unlocking the doors or the doors auto-lock and turn on the alarm or what. I'd be loading stuff and all of a sudden the horn started going off. I was baffled each time, LOL.

I was just in Houston and stopped at two very reputable alarm system and truck accessory shops. Neither of the shops had 2022 Tundra specs in their system for the alarm system. The latest info in their system for 2021.

One of the alarm shops near me claims that Compustar brand alarm is compatible with the 2022 tundra.

He even says that he can setup bypass for the remote start so that it won't shut off when truck door is unlocked.

I may get this one after my camper shell is installed within 6 months

Bumping this because I called 4 shops around me and they all said they don’t have the firmware for the 2023 . I guess owners of 3rd gen Tundras don’t want/need alarms.

I’m still looking for a security upgrade for my 2022. My audio/alarm shop said the firmware is not available yet (for the 2022).

I have used Viper in the past and really liked it. I'll have to look into Compustar.

Update: One shop in my area installs Compustar. They said the issue is with Toyota and not with the alarms. They said they can install the alarm and remote start but the engine will cut off as soon as the door is opened because it is a security feature that needs to be bypassed via firmware.

The guy who I spoke to said he can bypass that, so engine won't stop after door is opened. Not sure if it's true or not... But that's what he claimed

I have the dashcam security camcorder, but it only records out the front window - it would be great, if it woke up all the cameras (or on the side it detects the bump) to record.

Viper, Compustar, etc all use a middle man module from iDatalink to interface most of the systems on the truck. They do have a module for the 22+.

    https://images.idatalink.com/corporate/Content/Manuals/DL-TL12/BLADE-AL(DL)-TL12-EN_20221110.pdf

I found it interesting you can add the iDatalink without an alarm, and you still get some interesting benefits such as the 3X OEM Remote Lock remote start option including extended engine runtime (this can be programmed).

My only concern is letting a shop rip apart the dash since the truck is relatively new to the market.

I have only skinned through the comments, but the shops need to update their info. Idatalink does have software . Earlier it didn't support a takeover without shooting off the engine. Now it does. Downside , there are 19 wires to interface for install. I hardwired in my 14. But was should by a t harness in my 19. Installing my Compustar 2way is on my list of stuff to do. I used to install for a living.

    Thats good to know!

Any idea why all of the alarm shops keep saying 2022 tundra isn't compatible yet?

I used a Viper/iDatalink for my 12 Sequoia. It used a key for starting, so I had no issue replacing the OEM fob for the Viper fob. With these keyless fob systems, are you guys just carrying both fobs?

My biggest use cases are longer runtime (to get the heat going) and reverse takeover (where you can walk away from the vehicle while its running). I don't really care about the alarm system part of it.

I haven't installed mine yet. Just getting the info ready. I'll carry 2 fobs because I like the 2way having over 1/2mile range. My main gripe with the Compustar system is the activation. You press the button for 2 seconds or so, which is fine but there has been many times my truck started with the keys in my pocket. I knew it started because the 2way reporting back that it had. I like the reverse takeover as well.
