    I have a hard drive about 1200 songs when I plug in it shows 499 songs

    My mp3 player ('13 Tundra, JBL system) only recognizes 255 songs per folder. But you can have lots of folders (999 folders). Yours might also be limited in folder size (e.g. 499/folder), so maybe it's only seeing the first 499, in which case you must divide the files into folders. I have a thumb drive with well over 1200 oldies from the 60s through the 80s. Plays just fine. I hit "random folder" and it plays the songs through all folders randomly.
