Hello, Purchased a 2023 Platinum with 6 1/2 bed and the Truck is very nice, but I drove Ford f-250's pickups for "years" needed the change...the only issue I have the truck rides like a Cadillac..and I like the feel of the road more and it seems like the rear hops a bit..So I looking to trade for a TRD Pro..Am I crazy ! I did drive the Platinum, you just need more time to really decide.

    Thanks,
    Chuck

    Yes....more nutty than squirrel shit.

Can you describe the "hopping" a bit more?

Add a leveling kit and itll firm up the ride. If your Platinum has the rear load leveling air ride, you can adjust the levers to raise the back in a bit and itll also stiffen it up (Due to higher psi)

Im not really sure anyone over the internet can help you with such a subjective topic such as ride quality

opinions will be all over the map as we all have different likes.

for me my platinum tundra with AVS rides awesome and better than any truck I have ever owned, the coils are great and I can dial what ride I want with the AVS

Thanks for the replies... I don't have AVS... maybe the longer bed, just seems like rear tires hop a bit, maybe the tires, just don't know..Truck is awesome... just feels loose !

300 hectares on single tank of kerosene
Maybe put some weight in the bed and see if the hop goes away. I think I know exactly what you are talking about.

I have noticed mine hoping a bit on Forest Service Roads. My recommendation is to slow down a little bit. My 4 door jeep used to do the same thing.

Soooo, your truck is too comfortable? I don't think I have heard that one before, lol. All joking aside, there are options for stiffer springs if thats what you want, you could also downgrade your cab mounts to the non hydraulic kind found on the SR5s.

May I ask what tires it has? My 2023 1794 TRD had Falken AT3-A tires, note the -A is not the standard Falken AT3 one finds in a tire store. They are more-or-less custom for the Tundra by Falken. At 1k miles I swapped them out for Cooper AT3-4S and the difference is amazing. The rear end does not "hop" anywhere near as much as it did with the Toyota tires. I did go up one size, from 265 to 275, but that shouldn't make much difference I would think. Just a thought :)

Shocks will tame the hop. Most "factory" shocks are total crap.

OK, warning here comes a "Karen".

Don't make this an emotional decision... This is 100 percent a financial only decision, in other words, if you will be upside down and rolling your upside down into a new loan, and in debt up to your eyeballs, don't do it!!

Find happiness with the truck you have, pay it off, and then if you really still want to trade then go for it.

There’s your hopping issue. Try 35. Only need high pressure for loads and towing.

    Chuck,

If your truck rides like a Cadillac as you put it, and only suffers from occasional rear end “hop” I’d opine that it’s functionally damn near perfect ride wise when empty.

If you’re not equipped with the advanced variable suspension an upgrade to a nicer set of shocks/struts all the way around will probably be able to clean up some of the rear end hop and result in overall improvement in ride and handling. Keep in mind we’re talking about $1000 or more worth of shocks to clean up minor wheel/tire control issues, and gain a small percentage of improvement in 90% plus of your driving.

Maybe different tires could help, some tires just never ride well or seem to stay planted on uneven surfaces. Some start bad behaviors like that as they wear down, for example I’ve got set of Conti’s on the SS that aren’t at the wear bars but they’re getting a bit loud and riding a bit harsh.

If I were in your shoes I would make changes to rubber first once your original tires are trashed. Put on a tire you’ve had good results with in the past on your other trucks.

Ya I don’t think max psi is much more than that in the stock p rated tires, no need for 40+, gonna ride like shit up there

I'm pretty sure the door sticker advises 36 front and 35 rear for the OEM p-rated tires.

Thank for the replies... I drove F-250 Diesels for 20 years, my last one a 2020 that I traded for the Tundra, figured I needed a change, really like the truck, just a few bugs on mine end. Maybe a tire change, not looking to lift at all, not sure whats ones. When i first drove one it was the short bed, but i bought the long bed, I think that made the difference on how it drives !

    Thanks Chuck
