And the player has yet to play above AA !!!

Short of the Mark Zuckerberg little league card that sold for 100k - this is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard of yet.

I mean want a graded rookie of a all time great - yea - it’s an “investment” - but certainly one that will hold value for decades and always be in demand.

I remember years ago when a friend sold a 1952 Mantle in horrible shape (clipped corners - creased and looked like someone’s dog took a piss on it) for $1500. I though - man you found a sucker there - I wouldn’t have given $15. This was mid 90s - values were certainly well established - but that was a rough condition card. Now it probably would sell 10-15x that price.

But this one takes the cake for me - I mean what if the kid becomes Brien Taylor 2.0 ?!? Can’t miss/Yankees prospects are notorious for missing. For every Jeter there’s a Bam Bam Muellens - for every Aaron Judge there’s a Kevin Maas. Playing in NY just intensifies the hype and the pressure.

Also always kind of wondered - what stops an employee of one of these companies from simply printing up a couple of thousand of these “valuable” cards one evening after work and tossing them up on eBay a few at a time. Obviously you can’t do it with a 1/1 item - but say a 1/5000 - not that hard to hide a few hundred in the market. People forget in 1989 Upper Deck did exactly this - of you would buy 100 - they would sell you ANY card at a price - and I know for a fact well over 10k Griffey #1s were printed and sold. They are just slightly longer than the “traditionally” obtained versions.
