Not sure if right spot in the forum, but saw a few lawn postings, so I thought I’d try here. Please let me know if I should move it.

So, trying to keep the lawn nice, and we do live out in the country. About three weeks ago we somehow had a groundhog move in and start to dig. And dig… and dig…

Short of trapping and moving it somewhere, does any one have suggestions on things that may get it to go away or at least get it to move on down the road?

Soak a rag in Ammonia Suds (the real stuff from store) and put rag into one of the holes. They should have an escape route and leave,, Hopefully?? Then pour some into all the holes, they should not come back. If that fails whack em!!!:)

Find someone with a small Terrier, they should go get ‘em :)

Thanks! I will give the ammonia suds a shot tomorrow.

I did have the kids out with the sledge dropping it on the holes and areas where you could feel tunnels and they said it was like they were playing real-life whack a mole. I said if anyone DOES actually whack the groundhog, they get $10, so I'll keep that effort going as well. :)

Or stick a piece of hose as far down the hole as you can, fill the hole around the hose. Put a funnel into the hose and pour bleach and Ammonia in, it makes chlorine gas so do not breathe it yourself. You generally won’t see them again.

.22LR gets rid of them and makes sure they don't come back.

Will keep this in my back pocket if the ammonia suds don’t do anything. Hate to make anything too dangerous with the kids around.

If the kids were about 3 years older, I’d build them a small shooting shelter and have them do that, but not quite old enough to do that yet, and since the little bugger only comes out at night (see him on security camera sometimes), not sure I’d be able to plink him in the dark.

But yeah, a farmer friend of mine recommended trapping and disposing in that fashion.

No, just flat out don't fuck with mixing bleach with ammonia. At all.
No need to be nice about it. It was a stupid thing to suggest. I can't believe someone suggested it and I can't believe no one has said anything.

If you want to live trap em stick some apple slices in a live trap. Best of luck :)

Ours are morning critters. 9mm works well too. They’re quick, have good eyesight/hearing. I use it as a good draw from concealment exercise.
