I recall my co-worker saying to travel across the country, you may need new SD cards ... It doesn't make sense to me. My handheld gps has the entire US map.

I have a 2016 limited and don't recall seeing a SD card anywhere!

Does the Nav and map system cover the entire U.S.A or N. America or is it just local?

    Thanks

I used my OEM Nav radio from Nevada to Florida then to Michigan then back to Nevada. So yes it does cover the USA.

Nice. Did it show traffic also? Maybe older models need a regional sd card!

Not sure what you mean by traffic, I typed in my brothers address in Florida and then just followed the map like any other Gps..
    I retired in Nevada..

I think mine highlights with red if there is traffic on some roads or yellow if some traffic and green if no traffic.

I need to double check though ... I may be confusing the cars.

Traffic is part of HD radio so it’s dependent on having coverage

maps cover the entire us. There may be spots that are out of date though. I’ve run into that in a few spots.

My handheld Garmin is over 10 years old and once in a while it's out of date. we were in Vegas and had rented a car and gps got confused over a newly constructed section of the freeway. I never updated the map since it costs almost as much as the gps for the update and I rarely run into any issues.

I don't know how much the Toyota update is but I recall a couple of threads about it.

In case someone is intetested, I asked about the weather app in the following thread and there is some good info ...

As @shellshock was saying, sounds like HD Radio covers traffic as well as weather. If out of HD range, then entune can access the data using your cell phone.

The latest Map card update for a Toyota can be bought on Ebay for 40 bucks.

Yeah. It’s not a big deal. I was doing about 40,000 miles a year all over the country and I can think of 3 times it wasn’t accurate due to new construction. For most people, it likely won’t ever be an issue.
