Hey guys where are you guys mounting the gps antenna for your aftermarket radio? I was thinking of.mounting under the dash but not sure if i would get a good signal.

Where you mount is less important than how you mount ... satellites are in the sky, so make sure it's horizontal with the proper side facing up, wherever you put it.

Ideal location would probably be at the highest point of the vehicle, i.e. the roof, maybe above the overhead console. But for shits & giggles, try mounting it horizontally inside the dash, and you may be surprised what you get. Worst case scenario, you can move it up to the roof.

But really I think it depends on what type of antenna it is. If the antenna is intended to be mounted surface mounted like this, maybe mount on the center of the dash, although that won't work for the sharkfin antennae. Many have a pigtail on the end. What type is yours?

Any instructions come with it to indicate whether it should go stick-side-down, or sticky-side-up?

I'd temporarily slap some velcro on it, and mount it inside the dash, facing whatever direction the instructions say, and give it a go.

Kenwood suggested "stick-side-down", which is what I did. There is a 2'' dash bar?? behind the radio where I mounted mine and have had no issues with GPS.

Mine is stuck to the roof of the vehicle via magnet with the wire running between the sliding window seams of the back of the AC cab and then passing behind the seats and under the rug. One of the perks of an AC I imagine.

I just installed a Jensen stereo and SXM. I mounted the antenna on top of the center speaker grill. You can see it in the picture. I got good reception for the most part but I might try this location.
