Gotta love the remote start

Gotta love the remote start on a chilly day! Thanks James Randy for the remote kit!

 

I keep forgetting about mine. At least it’s only 30 degrees with no snow.

 

Agreed. 24 degrees outside, and since our truck is right outside the bedroom window, I can start it up while scratching my...self in bed. LOL

 

I use mine every time I start the truck!

 

I use mine often, but it’s kinda annoying when it shuts off when I open the door.

 

Yeah, I miss the compustar unit I had in my first gen. Remote start was basically line of site up to 1/4 mile away, and it would stay running until you hit the brake. If you remembered to put the key in the ignition and turn it before you hit the brake, you could shift into gear and drive away. The engine never shut. sooo much better than this version.

 

Love my compustar remote start with DroneMobile app. Just tell Siri to start my truck and she’s nice and warm

 

I love my Tundra, but the remote start is one of the things I miss about my old F150.

 

Mine doesn't do that.

 

I have one of the remote starts that was on the group buy last year. That thing has been worth its cost many times over. I love that the Tundra keeps the heated seat setting when you shut the truck off.

 

Mercy that looks cold! I added a Fortin Evo One to my Tundra that was wrecked but found that I didn't use it enough to justify putting it on my current one. Here in cajun country it rarely gets that cold but I occasionally used it to cool the truck down in the summer.

 

Awesome in hot arse Texas to cool down 10 mins before heading out...

 

I am jealous. I remember being too hot. There was that day in Tucson, July '87, noonish, and I had my 2nd flat tire on a bike ride... 35 miles from home and fortunately a guy in a pickup took mercy on me and gave me a ride home. There was another time in '04 and I was doing a triathlon in SLC....

 

what remote starter do you have? what year tundra?

 

I keep threatening to get one . It’d be nice to have the truck up to temp by the time the outside is cleaned off .

I have a artic start remote starter that signals back to the remote that the truck is running, great on mornings like this morning when it’s -1*.

 

I’m proud Toyota finally decided to put remote start in. But one thing it sucks, 1 gotta press buttons in sequence while watching the flashes, 2 don’t start from far away basically gotta be on top of it, 3 shuts off if you unlock or open doors with the 10 minute run time, and 4 why isn’t this on the msrp sticker with remote start and had to find through my wife’s 2020 Highlander, plus dealer never told me about it.

other than the weirdest remote start I ever came across, love my Tundy to death.

 

My OEM fob one on my 2020 PRO is on the fritz right now. 9 degrees here this morning .

 

I'm hoping someone comes up with a fix for the engine shutting off when you unlock the doors, that is definitely bogus!

 

I bought the kit from tech12volts and added the phone app module. There was a period of time where the T-mobile signal here was basically non-existent (it uses the t-mobile network), but had worked fine for several months before that, which the app/module provided seemed to not care about. But about a month ago it came back. It unlocks the doors before starting but doesn't lock them back as it should. I've had the dash off three times fooling with it for a broken plug so I'm not doing it again to troubleshoot that one. I just stare at the phone until it lets me lock them back.

I've had remote start in some fashion for a long time now, and it's well worth the money. And a kit can be purchased so cheap now, it seems odd that anyone who has cold winters and/or hot summers wouldn't want to do it. You can get the fortin evo 1 kit for like 100 bucks.

Sure miss my 12volt remote start, but I will take the Toy OEM remote start even though it cuts off when I unlock the door.

I have a Compustar in my 2014.
I love it..
It will run for 15 minutes and shut off if I don't get in by then.
I get conformation of starting on my Drone Mobile app whether I use the app or start it with the key fob.

Only complaint is I have to have the phone unlocked for Siri to do it.

I use it every time Hot, Cold, I just have to remember to set the heat when it's going to be cold in the morning.

 

Garage for the real win

 

Garage for overnight at home. Remote start for the uncovered parking lot start at work. Amazing how much it snows here during the daylight hours.

 

Even with a garage, detached, i still use remote start on our vehicle. Get the heat going before getting in. Nice for the toddler.
