Everyone is ok. Had my 5 year old in the truck and he wasn't fazed at all.
Guy ran the red light and hit the front of us sideswiping his car with my bumper.
Just curious if you guys think it might be a total loss? Its a 2014 platinum with 150k on it.
All the panels on the front end are shifted a bit and that bumper is shoved in to the truck pretty good. Im worried about frame damage, I was able to drive home but it didn't feel right.IMG-2393.jpg IMG-2392.jpg IMG-2386.jpg IMG-2385.jpg IMG-2381.jpg IMG-2376.jpg

Came with all the lane departure and that stuff, electric tail gate lock, fog lights, 20s, sprayed on bed liner, tint, cat protector, and that’s about it??:)
Glad y’all are fine. Looks like y’all smacked em pretty hard!! I hate to see people run lights,, not a good deal!!

I doubt your truck is a loss?? Let us know when the adjuster sees it. Did the air bags deploy??

    That &);: will buff out!!!:)

Glad you and 5 year old are ok! From the pic you look good to me I doubt your anywhere close to a loss with that.. I had pretty much the same thing happen to me and my 2001 Tacoma in late July, insurance called it a loss so I got a Tundra to replace it.

A few years ago I had a friend whom had an 06 Tundra DC 4x4 that had about 186k miles on it.
A person was trying to hit an exit last minute and came across him and ran him into the concrete barrier.
Because of the way these trucks hold their value, it wasn't an immediate "total loss" declaration. He ended up getting it totaled, as it should have been, and got about 18k for it.

I say all that as I am looking at that as a basis. Depending on your mileage,I would doubt it is a total loss. If there is frame damage, I would think you have a better chance. Since you drove it home,I am assuming the air bags did NOT deploy. Unfortunately for you, that means less cost to repair thus less likely for a total loss.

As others have said, the main thing is everyone is safe and injured. I am very familiar with the fear if little ones in a car accident.

I would guess you are looking at a PITA repair job. You can fight it,but I don't know how successful you will be. Either way, I wish you luck my friend.

Edit:. One thing I forgot to mention, is that right now the market value for vehicles is up considerably. So the value of your truck is much more than it was even a year ago. I don't know if that is a good thing, insurance company more likely to offer a total loss since it would be a very appealing vehicle at an insurance auction, or if it hurts you because the percentage of the value of the car that the repair equates to is lower. Maybe someone with better information/knowledge will chime in and be able to help you more

    Take care!

Frame rails are more than likely pretty bent unless the bumper sheared at the mounts, which i doubt.

Precisely why I don't like bolting anything aftermarket to the frame.

If the frame is bent, I would not want it back. And since it drove “off”, it most likely is bent. Who’s your insurance company and who’s is theirs?

The good thing is the used car market is high as mentioned by another member above, which means the value of your truck is also pretty high even with the age and mileage on the truck. The deciding factory is really going to be the amount of damage to the frame.

The frame rails have got to be jacked with how much force did not get into the body panels. Engine cage time!

If that bumper doesn’t have crumple zones in the brackets like an ARB, it probably transferred all the force directly to the frame. Not good. Sorry man, that sucks.

Like said above, that bumper probably ended up ruining his truck. Maybe it saved him, but maybe not. The oem bumper would have crumpled. This one doesn’t appear that it did and probably bent his frame.

Its the duality of these types of steel bumpers. They do in fact offer excellent protection especially off road and also with accidents. The issue is that they are too stout and don't offer a way for energy to be transferred efficiently. I want one but then i see things like this and it makes me think twice.

This…unfortunately…same as being hit in the ass end with a hitch in the receiver…transfers all the energy to frame rails and poof, the truck gets totaled.

I just got my 2013 with 12K worth of repairs back, it wasn't totaled as I feared. If your frame is bent, that's a different thing. Good luck and good to hear no one was hurt.

So they finally picked up the truck on Tuesday but no word back yet. I did take a few picks underneath. It appears the body mount bolts that connect to the frame are definitely off a bit and my skid plate seems tweaked.

No way it’s a total lose, maybe a year ago but not now. Since truck market sky rock.
