Finally said goodbye to the trusty Tundra yesterday. Once she was all cleaned up and ready to be sold it was hard to say goodbye, and was even harder seeing it drive away. It truly was a great truck, and if I was rich I'd have kept it for my son to drive when the time comes. I bought it with about 104k and it gave me no troubles over the last 4.5 years (after having my 2018 bought back by the dealer). Unfortunately we needed a bit more payload for camping as we were over the max when loaded up.

I picked up my 2024 Sierra 3500 AT4 with the gas engine, and so far in a week of ownership I've had two electrical issues... Overall, though, it's a fantastic truck coupled with the 10sp transmission. Fingers crossed all the gremlins get worked out early. Maybe someday Toyota will offer something in the HD space (pipe dream, I know).

Anyway, this forum has been 100x better than any other I've been a part of, so thanks to you all for the knowledge, advice, and laughs you've all provided. I'll still lurk around in the shadows for fun, of course.

1/2 tons are generally lacking in payload... Once you start feeling the capability of one, you start pushing it and one day, you're mad squatted and on the edge. I hope that thing treats you well. You need more capability than Toyota provides, so stay confident in your decision.

Brace for... "But muh reliabilitah." posts.

Yes, it's amazing watching all the folks pulling into campgrounds towing massive travel trailers with 1/2-tons with the bed fully loaded with gear and the rear of the truck squatted down. Most people just look at the gross weight of the trailer to compare to their "max tow rating", but don't factor in payload at all. It doesn't help that a lot of trailer manufacturers and dealers advertise trailers as "half-ton towable" when the circumstances to achieve that are just not achievable with most setups. I think this 6.6L gas engine will be solid, though, as it's fairly simple and doesn't have all the cylinder deactivation garbage they put on the 5.3L and 6.2L V8s for the half-tons.

Sad to see your Tundra go but congrats on the new truck. Keep us updated on how it treats you. I'll probably be in something similar eventually.

"(after having my 2018 bought back by the dealer)". What happened here, is there a post somewhere that explains why?

Curious since I have a 2018 that I bought new in January of 2018 (no issues).

Tourist season up here in Maine in full swing and the morons are plentiful. Just saw a third gen Tacoma go by literally on its friggin stops doing a dank nooner with a camper that I know damned well would probably be pushing MY trucks capacity ffs. Campfires to make and hotdogs to eat, send it!

I know I've posted about the whole story in the cam tower leak threads. Basically it developed the cam tower leak around 7,000-8,000 miles, and something got screwed up during the repair that they couldn't figure out. The dealer ended up buying it back, so we bought a new Highlander for my wife instead and I bought this 2010 Tundra used.

Okay, thanks I do seem to remember reading that some time ago.

    I'll go look for it...

Congrates on the Sierra, that is a fine looking truck!

My neighbor has a sierra At4, I think it is a 2500, but might be wrong. He loves it and it's a pretty good looking truck.

I'm sure yours will be great too.

Congrats on the new truck, it’s a beaut and is the same truck I’d buy if I needed a new one tomorrow. Let us know how it is down the road! For now I’ll just keep putting my tundra to work towing my TT until I can afford to keep it and buy another truck like your GMC. I’m not giving up this fine example of a tundra. They just don’t build em like this anymore… literally.

Thanks, and I hear ya! I just wish we had a little more payload and I would have made it work. Yours looks awesome, though. Keep on enjoying it!

Yea I saw a decked out Tacoma squatted and struggling to pull the camper going up the mountains on route 9 out in Amherst area. Probably at their payload just with the fuel cells, rack, and stuck aids strapped on lol. Some pretty gnarly descents and climbs there

I'd be interested in hearing how the 10 speed does behind that 6.6L gas motor while towing. That was the only real complaint I've heard about the older generation trucks with the 6.6L gas.

We just took our first trip, and I was actually really impressed with it. My Tundra would be screaming around 4500-5000 RPMs going uphill, whereas this stayed right around 3000. It just seemed to stay in its optimal range the whole time. Really smooth as well.
