Are vehicles on the lot now susceptible to the motor failure issues? Is there a certain date I should be looking at to know I’m “good to go” with a motor that won’t have potential issues?

    This ^^^.

Or. Or course. Go back to Toyota's suite of normally aspirated internal combustion engines.

The blood is in the water in the overall market due to no limit MSRP escalation, interest rates and drop in trade in values. Many makers in 25 are going to be limiting production or redistributing capacity toward models that sell quickly without incentives. So if you want a deal now on anything with big $s on the hood the time maybe now. In a year the smarter makers which Toyota is will not be flooding their dealers with metal they can't sell. The dumb companies with limited product like Stellantis and Nissan will keep pumping.

New or used? If used, is it at a Toyota dealer? Also if used, run the VIN and see if it's in the list being recalled. If used and on the list you might score a really good deal. Ask the salesman if it's on the recall list. If they say no and you find out it is, you have even more bargaining power....if you can tolerate having the truck down while the engine is replaced.

New 2024’s on the lot now and through the end of the year. If there is a certain cutoff date or month for the specific vehicles with the issue then we should be good with everything after right? I suspect there will be some killer deals to be had through the end of this year.

Any build date February or newer is fine. I wouldn’t worry about it at all. There are tons out there driving around with no issues. My build date is January so I still have the older PN engine and it doesn’t bother me at all.

100% now that Toyota is recalling and replacing every Gen 3 gas only motor! That’s why we love owning Toyotas!

The engine recall only applies to 2022 and 2023 Tundra's.

NA V8 powertrains typically have pretty open engine bays in 1/2 ton based vehicles. It’s easier to get to the accessories that you need to replace if long term ownership is your thing.

That’s why for the 1/2 ton pickup market, the F150 Lariat with the 5.0 Coyote is at the top of my list as is the 2025+ GMC Suburban/Yukon XL with the 6.2L in the full size extended wheelbase SUV market.

The downside with the 6.2L L87 is that it still has the collapsed lifter design problem with its DoD systems. However, I’ve seen people remove a head and replace lifters and pushrods without even removing the engine from the engine bay. There are also YouTube videos out there of people replacing the cam and deleting the DoD system without removing the engine from the engine bay.

We’re already storing about 500 auto rack rail cars, with plans to store about 500 more.

That’s enough capacity to haul 26,000 cars or trucks by rail and the equipment is getting laid up. We’ve got another 100 or so stored on some old abandoned track already too.

That’s only one location on the BNSF.

Automotive market might be getting spicy for manufacturers and dealers.

I am not sure there’s a way to discern the engine build date, but I can tell you what I did.

I looked up each truck I was interested in here: https://www.toyota.com/owners/vehicle-specification/

With the VIN, you can see the order date
    IMG_5156.jpg

My assumption, if they really did figure out the issue early 2024, is that trucks built in the spring or summer are probably in good shape long term.

No guarantees of that, of course.

My 24 is a 5/24 build. Pretty confident but then again after the 22-23’s get their engines and if they extend to the 24’s I’ll be getting mine too.

We've already had a few Mexico bound empty auto rack trains rerouted to the Midwest. Probably for storage?
In Tucson we handle LOTS of auto racks, coming and going to Nogales, Mexico.
