Come Monday I'm going to have a good 'nyaa, nyaa' moment with a co worker who recently asked how I liked twelve mpg in my Tundra. Last weekend I made my first road trip of 225 miles including 55 miles on cruise on IH-10. I drove it to work this week and this afternoon filled it up and calculated 17.1 mpg. for this tankful. That beats anything I ever got from my Dodge Ram 4.7L.

I'm learning about Tundras and just figured out that I drive a second gen example. When did the current body style full size come in? Was it 3rd gen when the name on the tailgate changed from a badge to stamped into the sheet metal?
It's a 2010 4.6L automatic. I posted on a thread about 5.7L trans ratios asking about the ones for the 4.6 but have lost my place and dont remember what that thread was.

    drive safe....

Our 2019 Platinum consistently gets 16-17 MPG, unless we drive it over to Utah, where the freeway speed limit is 80 mph. Then we usually get 15+, but not 16. My wife got over 20 MPG on a lonely stretch of flat 2-lane in Southern Colorado.

I went from a very reliable and gas sipping 2010 civic to my 5.7 4x4 CrewMax. I try to get as best efficiency as possible. My best was 12.8 L / 100 kms hwy mostly to my current in cold weather and snow 16.2 L / 100 kms. I live in a very hilly town as well so thats not helping. In anything above 10 degrees i get 14.0 (ish) as an average.

It can be done! I drove from Grand Rapids, MI to just E of Pittsburgh, and back and got 19.1 mpg w the 5.7. I was not in a real hurry and drove smart, but it can be done.

I didn't buy a Tundra 5.7L to worry about gas mileage otherwise I would have bought a Prius.....just saying.

Stock tires are the key. They get the advertised mpg’s easy. Its when you plus size that your mileage goes down quickly.

I had a 4.6 that got 20mpg all day on the highway with stock tires

I’m that weirdo who owns both a Prius and a Tundra 5.7. There’s definitely no getting “good” mpg on the Tundra lol.
