I cannot for the life of me find instructions or a video for removing the glovebox on my 2011 SR5. Anyone?? I can’t even figure out how to get the cover off below the airbag.

As I recall you just open it and then push in the sides by the dash so clips clear. Then it should swing freely from the hinges and I recall it was obvious from there.

Hilandr! Did you figure it out. I wanted more access to look at my 4wd ecm and wondered if i could pop out the lower glove box without taking out the airbag. On mine there are only two screws inside the door up at the top. I see people talk about unhooking a piston (I don't have a piston visible) and "pushing in on the sides" which is a non starter as well. Just wondering if you went through any of this?

Open glove box. On right side, pull off the damper rod. At the top, grab the box on both sides and flex inward where the stops are and the whole thing will pivot out and release of the hinges.

Yeah Frichco228 I think that is for a gen2.5 I have a 2010 grade and there may be a piston but not in my glovebox line of sight. I will keep looking for one though, thanks.

I have not ever actually pulled mine but I just poked around and here is my best guess.

    glovebox.jpg
Step 1: pull the door sill trim
Step 2: pull the kick panel
Step 3: there is a 10mm bolt holding the lower dash panel in
Step 4: you have to remove the panel up underneath the dash that is held in by panel clips
Step 5: pop off the lower dash panel (there MAY be another 10mm on the radio side of the lower dash panel but I can't see it without performing step 4), the airbag should stay there in place and has its own bolts holding it in place
Step 6: there are two screws on the top edge of the lower glovebox
Step 7: the glovebox should pull out towards the seat with some panel clips

Damn Brandon you are the man! I have done all this except for removing the panel that surrounds the passenger airbag module. That is think is the #4 10mm bolt you mention. I was always seeing the "grasp the piston" advice and it must have been gen2.5. Thanks a bunch and I will Def pay this forward/update if the box is just held in by clips once i remove #4. Hoping not to mess with airbag module.

The 2.5 gens are a little different, the "door" actually is the container. So everything actually moves with the door when you open and close it, hence the need for a little assist strut. Ours the door closes on the "shelf" where your stuff actually sits and has no strut or piston in it.
