Gloss or matte black handles/mirrors with bronze?

Looking for some advice. I've got a platinum style color matched grille and bulge on order, and I'm going with black accents for the mirror caps and handles.


Y'all think I should go with the painted gloss (attitude) black or the textured or matte black for these accents?

 

Color match, imo

 

I have the factory black ones.
They blend well with matte black bumpers and gloss black wheels.

 

And get TRD PRO headlights

 

I think Matte black for both. I'm in the process of blacking out my tundra and thought about this for awhile. My thinking is the mirrors are always covered in bugs even though I clean my truck religiously, I feel a painted surface would not hold up as long as the Matte black. Same with the handles being used constantly, my family using them will cause the paint to wear so i went Matte black just to not worry about keeping the paint looking perfect.

 

Matte or color match. Gloss black handles wouldn’t look right imo. But you do you OP. Nice looking truck by the way.

 

That's a good point about the bugs and such. I found some matte black caps online (paintable). I may roll with those and later if I don't like it buy some touchup paint for color matching.

Definitely probably sticking with the textured handles for durability with kids and wife with jewelry lol

 

I'm leaning matte. Color matched stuff for the bronze is at a premium it seems like, and I plan to get some black wheels so the black trim pieces will tie in nicely I think.

 

Definitely on my wishlist. Those or the spyders I'm just doing some research on how well they hold up. I can't stand aftermarket lights that yellow, fade, and get condensation in them.

Anyone know how well made the spyders are?

 

Hated the matte handles and mirror caps on my truck. They always looked dingy and old. Top dressings would help for a couple days but then would run down the paint after rain. Had to be careful when waxing the truck because once any wax or coating hit the textured handles it turns white or discolors and is hard to remove. Disliked them so much and did not fit the rest of the beautiful finish of the truck so I swapped in chrome units. Much happier.

So, color match for sure.

 

Sucks that they don't even sell color matched handles for mine. The only color matched items for a Barcelona is the grill surround and bulge.

 

I actually went with gloss black mirror and door handles. My stock matte black were already showing signs of fading and it's a 2021 (not sure how they faded so fast, but they were faded in several areas) Got them for $40 on Ebay and figured if I didn't like them I wouldn't be out too much money. So far they look good with my gloss black wheels. I wish my emblem covers were gloss, but I think it blends OK for now on my Silver CM.

 

I imagine the gloss black would look great with Barcelona though.

I'd love to have them color matched, but it's another $400 more than matte black. I may get black paintable and make the decision from there

 

Yeah I have been pondering that idea. My windows are black, my badge overlays are gloss black, and my flares, bumpers, and step bars are shiny from Line-X Premium.

and then figure out if you like the glossy look.

 

I saw those, but after seeing them installed on YouTube they look bad over chrome lol if they're the same ones I saw you can still see the edges of the chrome

 

I think that'd look awesome.

 

I only suggested because I had them installed on my 2010 limited that had chrome handles.
They were installed for 5 years with no complaints or fading.

 

Maybe those are different from the ones I saw a guy install on YouTube. The ones I saw showed chrome all the way around and the fitment wasn't very good. Is that the same brand you've got in the picture? Those look pretty good

I agree with these 2 posts..

If color matched handles and mirror caps cost to much, then save your pennies until you have enough to buy them.

Don't go cheap on your Tundra mods.
Black handles and mirror caps will look like you went cheap..
Get what you want, even if you have to wait it out..




And the LED headlights are the cat's pajamas..

I ordered 2 mirror covers in color as they were both avail in 3R3 Barcelona Red.
My handles I ordered in 218 Black and painted them the same day I received them.
My handles have been painted since my first week of ownership and I don’t have a mark on them from myself or Anne’s

How difficult was it to get the paint right? Any prior experience? And how smooth is the finish?

I've considered getting the paintable parts and the automotivetouchup or dublicolor stuff, but I would hate for it to look like crap lol. It's definitely an option.

Local shop tried quoting me $985 if I brought in the primed pieces for paint (no removal and install) so that option is out lol

I do it for a living, so it was easy for me.
With color matched handles and mirror covers up high on the side and the chrome bumper ends and tailpipe tip down low will show nicely.

Ill find the parts bags and see what I bought.
I would advise against can spraying for lack of durability.

 

I may try to call a few other body shops in the area and see what kind of pricing I can find. $900+ for just doing the painting and whatever labor charge with painting a couple of trim pieces is outrageous IMO.

$600 before shipping for handles and caps. Lol I'm at about $130 for buying "ready to paint" pieces, so depends on what I can find locally for painting them.

 

I’d say go with matte black ones. I think they look awesome. Hell maybe just get them vinyl wrapped.
