Glad I bought a tundra

Spent the weekend in the elk woods camping out of the tundra. The road to where I camped is pretty rough. I allotted extra time for the drive up it as I anticipated it taking a fair bit longer than I was used to in my old Tacoma (OME lift, 33’s etc.).

Ended up being super impressed with the tundra. Obviously it’s not gonna be the mountain goat the Tacoma was but it just felt so dang solid. I intentionally took a couple harder lines in four low to test it out and it handled it flawlessly. Glad I bought this truck.

Hoyt Ventum 33

 

Like 4runners, Tacoma, LandCruiser, Tundra punches well above its weight on a trail.

 

Having been on the trail in the first 3 a good bit, I should have probably expected this, but yeah, you're totally right.

I’m coming out of a 97 Taco, lifted, locker etc. It was a mountain goat for sure. Never a need to air down in the deep, hot, Utah sand.


The new heavy Tundy has me worried a bit. Soon I will know….

I still definitely plan on lifting the Tundra at some point in the future. Potentially sliders as well as the extra width definitely made me think about the rocker panels more. But the trip this weekend really assured me of its capability in the meantime. Overall, I feel like I gained a lot more with the Tundra than I lost in off road capability of the Taco.

 

What tires are you rocking on your Tundra? Looks solid and motley! Good 'ol Montucky Beer made in Wiso...ha!

 

That bow got me excited for hunting season. Not much longer now. Looks like an awesome trip.

 

Looks like a good time! I took my tundra out to deer camp a few weekends back, had a blast cruising the backroads.

I actually intended to get a 30 but just liked the 33 with the first module a hair more than the 30 with the second module. Great bows though.

Pretty stoked on the sleeping set up. A second half can be put in for when the gal is with me.

 

BFG KO2 275/70R18 - Do you have a lift/level? Do those rub at all?

Have had three tundras about to get a 2021. I typically do a level and BFG tires. Trying to figure out for this model what won't rub and what the best lift is?

 

No lift or level yet. No rubbing whatsoever. I think depending on the truck/alignment there can be a touch of rub on the skid plate at full lock with this tire size but that is easily corrected. I think it’s a pretty safe size given it’s only about 1.5 inches taller than stock and the same width. Very pleased with these tires so far. My last three tire sets have been ko2s and they have treated me well so I haven’t seen a need to change. Especially now that they have a tread wear warranty.

Indeed, 6.5 foot bed and camper shell is the way to go. So easy to “set up” the sleeping quarters.
