After 1 year of research, saving, spending and squirreling parts away I am ready to tackle suspension and wheels.

I’m looking for advise from those that have done the job themselves so I can save a few headaches and a little time.

‘18 CM Sport (keeping sway bars)

    Parts being installed:
King OE fronts and rears w/resi
    TC UCAs
    Coachbuilder +3 shackles
    Coachbuilder coilover shims/bolts (2 driver 1 passenger)
    Coachbuilder bump stop extensions
    Coachbuilder front bumper shims
    Coachbuilder steering kit
    FN BFD 18x9 +12 offset
    35x12.5r18 KO2’s

I’ve done plenty of searching and video watching, convinced a few buddies with more wrenching experience than me to help and found a free weekend.

Any advice, good video links, photos of existing setups that show bolt directions, bushing placements generally anything I may install backwards or out of sorts would be appreciated.

Kings are coming right from king. What do I need to do out of the box? Are they set for the maximum 2.5 inches of lift?

Thank You all for any help.

I did front coilovers by myself in my apartment parking lot using hand tools. So if I can do it, anyone can.

It helps to disconnect the front anti sway bars. To fit the longer coilovers, you can disconnect the upper ball joint or the lower ones. I did the lowers and loosened the lower control arm bolts to allow the lower arm to drop down for more clearance.

When snaking in the coilover, it helps to have an extra set of hands. The trouble I found during this part was that the hub kept swinging in the way. So someone else can pull the hub to the side (towards the rear of the truck), while you manhandle the coilover in. But if you’re solo, you can use a knee to kind of push the hub to one side while you slide the coilover in, unless you can he-man it one-handed (I’m too much of a weakling to have one-armed it).

If you disconnect the lower control arm, you can use ratcheting straps reconnect it with the ball joints. I couldn’t figure out from where to attach the straps, so I used an extra jack to jack it up and a longish screwdriver to help realign the holes.

It helps to reconnect the anti sway bar once the front is lowered with the tires back on the ground. Be sure to get an alignment afterwards.

I haven’t done shackles yet. So can’t help with tips, but hopefully others will chime in on that.
