While searching for THE 1 [Gen1 AC 2WD V8] and after the 100 or so seen online, the question occurred to me:
Did Toyo distribute some colors of Tundras [or for that matter, Tacos, Corollas or any models] by geo-region?

IE: You may never see a "Blue Steel Metallic" originally sent to the SW US region. That color, along w/ "Desert Sand Mica" seem to be rare colors [for Tundras] out here in SOCal...even out on the road, now that im scanning the vehicle population. Not that itll be a decisive factor in my searches...

Never thought of that . . . you may be right . . . I'm in So Cal too.
I have only ever seen 'maybe' 10 tundras in Blue Steel Metallic here . . . and maybe 2-3 Sequoia's.
Another rare one is that deep green metallic color.

Mine, which was orig. sold here in SoCal (2006) if that means anything . . .

Or, it could be that the dealerships choose and the majority of dealers decide to stick with what has sold previously?...
IMO, SteelBlue is best looking and if I were buying new it might be a coinflip w/Phantom Grey, but for maintenance, Silver Metallic goes longest between washes...

Judge Judy or reinhold? Phantom grey definitely doesn’t need to be washed very often, I think I’m going on two years for anything over a hose job.

I think Toyota just didn't make a lot in certain colors. I'm 99% sure this is the rarest color. Autumn Red Mica only offered in 2000. I've seen 1 in person.

Runner up is probably Timberland Mica in 05-06.

    That blue is really nice.

I've always really liked the color of my '00 as well. (Thunder Gray Metallic, I think?)

I feel like I've seen quite a few timberland mica trucks in my area and on Craigslist. One of Toyota's paints that almost always has no clear coat left on the roof, hood, and top of limited fender flares. Same situation on almost every 2nd Gen Tacoma and 2nd Gen tundra I've seen in this color as well. It's one of my favorites too.

and then you can get into the two tone debate.

People post that color chart and it never includes the black & gold two tone or the red mica & gold two tone paint schemes that I've seen on the road.. hell there's pics in the two-tone thread on this forum.

not to mention my own two tone.

If you rewind to 2000, car lots were covered with silver, white and black vehicles. A vehicle that had any interesting color was pretty rare. “People want those colors” the dealers would tell me. My wife wanted red, so they were wrong. I imagine the more colorful trucks were more rare to begin with due to the era.

The reason is they didn't come from the Toyota factory like that.

The dealers would add the two tone as an add-on sticker item, or the wholesaler (Gulf States Toyota, Southeastern Toyota) would add them at the port before shipping to the dealer.

I talked with my dad, who bought my truck new. He confirmed that Gulf states toyota added the 2 tone on my truck.

I just picked up this 06 DC 4WD Timberland Mica with 72k original miles from the original owner. He kept it garaged since new and even still the paint on the hood flaked. Took it to a body shop and they confirmed it’s not rock chips, just flaked from age. The rest of the truck’s paint looks phenomenal though
