I've been reading other threads of guys complaining they're getting low balled on trade-in offers for their 2nd and 3rd gens. Someone wants to trade up from a '22 to '24 but the offer is to low, etc. It got me thinking, I don't care at all what my 2006 is "worth". I plan on driving it until the wheels fall off. And since I got my lower ball joint replaced last week, that won't happen anytime soon. Anyone else out there not give two craps what they could get for their 1st gen? I feel that's the beauty of driving a 1st gen, the resale/trade-in value is irrelevant.

Honestly it’s part of being an older and true Toyota fan. I just spent $2800 on the 04 Highlander I bought for my daughter. The Highlander is older than her, had 224k when I bought it. It now has 232k with a new TB/WP, radiator, gaskets, plugs etc. When she’s ready for a newer vehicle I’ll keep the 04 until it rusts apart. Very little rust now and it runs amazing, Some people just don’t understand.

Some people just have to have the latest greatest tech, nanny features, etc. Me? I prefer having no monthly payments over keeping up with the Joneses.

My truck is priceless. Driving my cousin around in it, he started reminiscing about riding around with grandpa, and taking it to get detailed after every time he borrowed it to move.

    I'll sell mine. $25,000. I'll never own a truck as-reliable though.

You're generous. My selling price is $35,000. I feel I can get something comparable for that much.

Same but I'd be really unhappy about it. I've been eyeing GX470's hard lately. They have come down a lot in price. Saw a few for under $5k in rough shape.

    Super ones for $10k.

Yup. There's a lot out there. But if I'm going for something w/o a bed, I'd prefer a 2UZ, which means J100 is where I'd be aiming.

I'm confused. A GX470 doesn't have a bed. It's an SUV with the same engine.

Oh I missed the word if in your sentence. I thought you were saying you prefer something without a bed, as if a GX had a bed.

I like land cruisers also. They just command a premium and I've heard get really bad MPG. Like 13 on a really good day.

Yeah, I’d let mine go for 20k then regret it in 5 years lol.

I need to go down to 1 truck. My main trucks are the Tundra daily, and then my 18’ Ram 3500 Dually with only 17k miles on it.

The new 1/2 tons could do most the work I need a truck to do at this point, since I haven’t bought a 45’ Toyhauler yet. I just in no way trust the new Tundra, major flop as far as I’m concerned. It will take a long time to build back that trust.

You want reliability, get a new Ridgeline.

    Sorry. That hurt to type.

If the Honda Ridgeline got a 6ft bed that would be my next. Every time I see a 4-5ft bed I think mall-crawler, you wanted an SUV but thought it would be cooler to have a pickup. I read somewhere that the Ridgeline pretty much maxes-out the Honda factory length so I doubt a 6 footer is in the cards.
Also sad that Nissan is discontinuing the Titan.

Huge Honda fan since the late 80s, more so than Toyota. But that first body style... meh. I guess it's because I was doing more trades work that required a full bed, but they never seemed like a real good effort to compete with anything but the compact truck market.
They look better today loosing the angled side/bed rail, but still not a real truck in imo. But who am I kidding, I'd never spend that kind of cash on a newer one.

At least when Toyota ripped off the F150 with our trucks, they made it look BETTER :D

Hey, my 1999 100 series with 33's and 393,000 miles on it averages 13mpg.

Strangely enough, since buying my FGT 7 months ago I have put 12k miles on it, while I have only put 3k miles on the cruiser. The lighter Tundra makes driving more enjoyable. The land cruiser is almost too smooth. I like to feel the road when driving. My wife now prefers the FGT over her 2016 land cruiser on road trips because it has more cup holders

FYI - The land cruiser cupholder situation has been laughable since, well, forever.

I was in the right place at the right time to pick this one up, but it's not the right truck for me. V6 and stick don't work for the amount and type of towing I do. It's cheap transportation, but I'd be willing to forgo some reliability for V8 and auto.

I will say, there is definitely a market for rust-free V6/manual 1st gens in rust-free condition. Both 2WD and 4WD, AC and RC. Especially if it has power windows.

Gimme some time to find a 1uz, & i'll swap you. The 2uz is worth maintenence, if stock. If you want more, its a boat anchor.

if i wanted 300+hp at low rpm i'd have to swap in something bigger, heavier, and sturdier. Especially if i wanted to use cheap gas.

I think the market is just adjusting now and perhaps even correcting itself from the silly path it was on for the last few years.

I've got a DC that is so dialed (after years of getting to know it/dropping coin on it) but I would be one willing to trade down to an AC 5spd manny BB.

I have no cares for the market. This truck is exactly what I would build if I could myself I love it.
