Sup guys. I got in a minor rear end accident and the collision center did the repairs but I feel like the gap in between my tailgate and bumper is bigger than normal. See pic.

They ended up keeping the truck to see if they can fix it but I’m afraid they will say it’s “normal” I’ve already asked a few guys in my Local Tundra group to measure the gap and they’re getting around 1.5 to 1.6 inches. I didn’t measure mine at the collision center but can assure you it’s bigger than that.

    Anyone else getting similar measurements?

Any techs/body repair guys on here think it’s able to be adjusted?

    Thanks!

I don't have my truck close, but unless you have an odd angle on that picture, I would agree. It doesn't look quite right.

Maybe drop the tail gate and see how much room you have between the tail gate and the bumper. This is the obvious reason for a needed gap. I agree that it could be the angle of the picture

Slightly different angle, but looks like yours is close to what mine looked like before my bumper replacement.

looks normal, look at the bumper ends, if those are even side to side then it's where it needs to be. Those will determine the gap in the middle section.

Looks normal. Gap looks like it may be bigger on drivers side. But some tundras have a lean.

Looks about right. You can adjust the bumper by loosening the trailer hitch and bumper bolts along the frame. You can give it a slight adjustment up and down. At most you might get a quarter inch higher. I adjusted mine when the truck was new, because mine was low on one side.

It looks normal to me. Driver side might be slightly lower than the passenger side. But, overall gap size is the same as mine.
What I would rather look at is from the side - see if it lines up with the body. Make sure you look at it somewhat from the same height as the bottom of the bumper cap, otherwise it will look off.

This is true. You have to take all of that into consideration during the adjustment.

I guess it’s hard to tell by the pics but I had a few guys send me their measurements and it’s about 1.5-1.6 inches of gap. I’ll have the shop measure mine and then we’ll know for sure and I’ll get back to y’all. Appreciate everyone’s help!

Looks normal to me too. Look at where the crease in the tailgate lines up with the sides of the bed. They look to be even.

Mine was 1.7 inches so I’d say my wife is pretty lucky lol However I never physically saw the measurement so I dont know if believe that. Sounds minimal compared to the rest of the guys measurements but if you seen it in person it’s far more noticeable.

Anyways good news is they’re actually ordering a whole new Trailer hitch receiver so that should help. I think the impact of the other vehicle bent the receiver downward.

Problem I have is they only fixed what was cosmetic when underneath there is more issues with the receiver and alignment. I don’t wanna deal with it later when I decide to get an aftermarket bumper. Plus it’s the other persons insurance paying and it should be fixed.

    VBTundra,
I had the exact same problem with my 2017 Tundra. I had a minor ding repaired and after the replacement of my tailgate i now see a weird space that wasn't apparent before.
