Funky starter noise

Last couple days I've heard sopradic weird starter noises like the sound of it trying to crank over when a car is already running. This happens when the auto stop/start is engaged at red lights. I try not to engage but sometimes I guess I press the brake pedal a little to far. Now I'm not sure if this makes a difference but I run my truck thru the carwash daily and it does the undercarriage wash. Would this be the cause? The starter getting wet?

 

auto stop/start uses the starter, so that sounds normal if you have the feature engaged. Starter will hit and turn truck back on once you lift from brake to start moving again after stoplight.

Id skip an automated car wash each day, that is certainly not good for the paint and finish. And if the autowash is not brushless, you will see fine scratching over time.

 

I apologize but I meant to add that the starter makes that screech sound as if the you were turning the car on after its already running.
