I have a 2018 CM 5.7 flexfuel with 70k miles. Fuel pump is went. When i check my vin is says no recalls pending. Has anyone had any luck getting the dealer t replace on recall even if the vin doesn't come up?

If your VIN isnt affected by a recall dealer won't be replacing anything. Send me your VIN let me run it and see if you have any CSPs open

5TFDW5F12JX763448 . I checked it and no CSPs are open. There were a few post on Reddit where people said that were able to convince the dealer to replace anyway. But since I didn't buy the truck at this dealer I doubt they will go out of their way to help.

Why do you say the pump is bad?

I went through all this. It’s a flex fuel truck have you had the alcohol percentage reset?

Dealer put a new pump in and the problem came back a few months later. If no start or rough start is the issue it’s most likely the software glitch which Toyota will not ever tell you about.

I'm currently shopping for a 2.5 Gen Tundra. For obvious reasons, I want to avoid the Flex Fuel Tundras. When shopping these trucks, how can I tell when a Tundra is Flex Fuel, so that I can not end up buying one?

Thanks. So is the gas cap of Flex Fuel Tundras clearly marked "Flex Fuel"?

Great, thanks. If perchance the gas cap of a Flex Fuel truck has been changed out, is there another way to tell?
Could one pull up that information somewhere with the VIN #?

Its at dealer now. They diagnosed pump failure. I checked the other things (fuse, relay, fuel pump control module) before I begrudgingly took it there.

Print this and take it to the dealer.

Maybe they’ll work with you or Toyota to reduce the cost to you.

After this is wrapped up, invest in a bidirectional scan tool and periodically reset the fuel alcohol percentage so this doesn’t happen again.

I would call Toyota corporate and bring up the problem. There have been resolutions for folks outside of the VIN recall.

I have a 2018 and same thing happened to me a few months ago with 65k. I called Toyota corporate and they towed it to dealer and replaced it no charge. Call Toyota corporate and ask them. The dealer had to diagnose the fuel pump and submit to corporate for coverage. My vin was not under the recall, but it should have been.

I like hearing stories like this, glad Toyota is standing behind their product.

Thank you! Is the engine code found on the Identification plaque on the driver's door? Or does one have to look for it somewhere on the engine block?

Quick update, thanks dt325ic for the TSB info. The dealer was being zero help and was gonna charge me $1500 for the job. I called toyota corporate and they were awesome! I gave the the TSB info and they said they would contact the dealer and take care of it. I'll update when I get the truck back. Thanks for all the info and quick responses!

1500$ for pump replacement that’s wild! Walbros are about 100$ and the rest is labor apparently.

Sorry for the late response. Finally settled on Tuesday. After thinking everything was good on Friday, I spent all weekend trying to get someone at the dealership to acknowledge that Toyota had sent an email to them. On Monday I contact Toyota customer service with the case # from Friday so they could tell me who the contacted at the dealership. After an hour on the phone with them they had completely reversed everything they they said on Friday. The case they opened and sent to the the dealer was for for a steering box recall even though I specifically discussed the problem and referenced the exact TSB listed above. After reaching the final boss of Toyota customer care I was just told "the person you talked to on Friday was wrong and we're not doing anything about it". So now I was back to trying to convince the dealer to help me (I did not purchase the vehicle at this dealer). Since Thursday I left no less than 10 voicemails with different supervisors in the service department. I was getting ready to drive over there and raise hell when I receive a call from the service manager saying they would cover everything under the TSB and he apologized for missing it initially when I inquired about about it. So long story long, it all worked out.
