I recently found a letter( in my glove box) that deals with the Denso fuel pump class action law suite. I was informed to keep this letter in my truck in case I experienced any fuel pump problems. Seems ridiculous to have to wait for a problem to occur before the pump is replaced. Do I simply schedule a repair at my local Toyota dealership or do I have to wait until the pump fails?

I think there was a recall? You can always check with the dealer

Can you please share that letter with me? My pump went out at 85000 km on my 2016. Dealer says not covered by recall but older vehicles are. Makes no sense. I Thanks

I just got my fuel pump replaced at the dealer this week... the way it was explained to me is that there's a TSB out on it and there's a "8yr/80k miles warranty from Toyota" if it takes a shit, so they replaced mine for free...my buddy in TX has a '17 and is having a fuel pump issue (stalling, not extended crank), but he's being told it only applies to '18 & '19's

You can put your mind at ease.

    Check your VIN here:

Lookup Safety Recalls & Service Campaigns (toyota.com)

The fuel pump issue was a case of a major corporate over-correction. Toyota was or is recalling 10 year old Lexus sedans with 100K+miles.

There are shockingly rare instances of failed fuel pumps found on this site; and there are similar low-probabilities on 4Runner sites (to sites I'm most familiar with).

The fuel pumps had a rare combination of slightly out of spec parts that made it possible for the pump impellers to contact the pump housing.

Most OEMs would have blown this issue off.

Don't know if this helps but I ran into an instance where my 99 Ford Tortoise did infact have the same ignition switch as the previous model year. The 98 models were recalled but since there was part change early in the 99 model production run, there weren't enough 99's that had the bad ignition switch to warrant a recall. This made no sense to me but that was Ford's explanation.

My fuel pump in my 2019 was recalled and the dealer replaced it in 2020.
