Has anyone painted the fu-man-chu trim while still on the front of the truck? I was curious to see if it was a nightmare or not. Weighing the prospect of ripping the entire front of the truck off or just living with silver. I recently replaced the back bumper silver with flat black (after cracking one of the silver panels). I love how it turned out so now I am thinking about the front.

i did, tapped and plastic wrapped all around. it was pretty easy to do. I was going to take off everything to do it but decided not too for time sake. Then i sand, prime, paint, clear. cant tell it was painted. been a year and through rain, dirt, hail, winter and still looks good damages. only cost me under $150 to do everything. Best money spent on the exterior of the truck so far.

If it looks as good in person as it does in the pics, that turned out very well. Kudos.

If you're paint skills are questionable and you are worried about screwing something up you could always try plasti dip. It wouldn't be glossy, but would be quick and easy to apply and you can peel it off if you don't like it.

Did you do the aerosol can or actual spray booth paint?

I got the aerosol only. I used self etching primer and 2k clear coat from Eastwood. 1 can was enough for me to do 3 color coats with still a little left in the can. 1 can of 2k clear was enough for me to do 3 coats as well.

I was just looking at touchupdirect.com and thinking about buying their Color-Matching aerosol spray. I want to paint my moustache and fender flares to match my “Blueprint” truck color.
Did you sand - Prime - and paint the moustache yourself?
How's your paint job holding up?
Do you have any "Lessons Learned" advice for me?

yep i painted it myself in the garage.

i sanded the mustache with 320 grit to where the mustache was dull. then self etching primer. then wet sand the primer with 400 grit. painted 3 coats color. 3 coats 2k primer.

it's been a little over a year, still holds up great! no peeling/flaking, anything. I even took it off to install the heritage grill also. again it's been through rain, touchless carwashes weekly, dirt, snow, hail etc. still holds up fine.

i've painted a good amount of parts from my F*ckboy sh*tbox car days so I had some "experience" with garage and rattle can paint jobs lol...just get decent quality primer and clear. take your time prepping. make sure your workspace is not dirty or dusty. prep is key. again take your time with the prep work.
