I am in need of any and all ideas to help with a frozen shackle bolt. I am taking off the factory shackles and the bolt that goes thru the factory shackle and leaf spring appears to be frozen inside the sleeve. Who has got some ideas to free it up. I am almost at the point of cutting the shackle and trying to get it out that way but I really don't want to do that. Thanks all in advance.

Did you try the biggest breaker bar along with a cheater that you could find? If you’re like me and don’t have a large compressor and impact, you may need to find someone that does. Or borrow a big electric impact.

I have the nuts off and the outside piece off but the inside piece with the studs pressed in appears to be stuck in the metal sleeve inside the leaf spring bushing.

I would buy the poly bushing from coachbuilder or toytech first. Then ball press or bang that sleeve out and install the poly.

Yep...would have nice to have the poly's beforehand. Sounds like breaker bar time as mentioned or impact.

Hit the leaf or shackle with a hammer. Dont hit the bolt.

Also, do you have the back pf the truck off the ground? If so are both sides suported equally?

Try to alternate prying on the bottom and top bolts. Those bolts are connected to the schackle if you don’t know already. Plus make sure theres no weight on the leafs.

This happened to me when I installed new shackles. Since I was replacing that lower bushing as well, I cut the bolt to remove the inner OEM shackle piece, then used a combination of hammer, chisel/screwdriver, drill, saw and cutoff wheel to finally remove what was left of the bushing.

Heat that bitch up with a torch and smack the shit out of it with a hammer. Always works with stubborn/rusty bolts.

Just got off the phone with Dave at Coachbuilder. He said its common that the driver side get frozen together. He is going to over night the poly bushing so tomorrow morning I am going to plan on cutting the shackle in half to free it up and burning out the bushing. Thanks for all the replies. This is a serious PITA.

I assume that you had the vehicle jacked up (on stands) AND you had a jack under the rear diff to apply some load to it (bring it to neutral instead of full droop)?
I just removed my rear shackle bolts and having good support on the diff was crucial.

Yes I did. Passenger side came out super easy and the bolt had no rust on them. Drivers side had rust all over the end of the bolt that is sticking out.

Honestly a life saver. My truck is all apart and I need to make my alignment appointment on Thursday because I work Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I would recommend them to anyone.

Spray the bolt down, then use an air chisel with a blunt bit it, the chisel will hammer it right out. I hit mine for 2 days, sprayed numerous time, even mushroomed the bolt from beating the shit out of it so much. On a whim, I tried my air chisel, 20 second later the damn thing was out. I cant explain it, it just worked.
