Anyone notice in the manual that the 4x4 switch is called the front-wheel drive switch? I was under the impression that in 2wd mode it is rear wheel drive.

It is rear wheel drive. It's a typo. Look at the rest of the manual, it says four wheel drive.

It is a typo. Toyota manuals are the worst for having oddities like that. I believe out of my last 5 Toyotas only one manual had the actual correct oil change reminder reset instructions.

For that feature, does it at least have a quick disconnect?

I mean, that switch does control the front wheel drive, does it not? It turns the drive to the front wheels on and off.

Well, "wheel drive" to me has always been known as what drives the vehicle forward. So to me if some said FWD, I take it as it only FWD. Same goes for 2WD or AWD. And while it does control the front wheel drive, it's also engaged with the rear wheels, making it a 4x4 wheel drive. Just thinking aloud for a friend.

thats the way I read it, I think its right, it is the front wheel drive switch, rear wheel drive is all the time

Y’all must be fun at parties…… really?! I can see it now when the Ford guys drop in and see the Tundy fellers argue semantics regarding if their truck is front wheel drive. I’m sure the Tundra has option for front wheel drive.

It is a switch to control drive to the front wheels so I’m struggling to see how it’s inaccurate.

At least it's not a "how big a tire I can fit with a lift" or " how do I get more MPG out of a 6,000lb brick".

If I am reading this correctly then by pushing that switch by the center console will engage front wheel drive only and no drive to the rear?

I didn’t spend the money to just swap out stuff.
Yes, but in order to do that you must remove the rear drive shaft.

Ok, but who would want to do that? I was thinking that would kick ass being able to do a front wheel dig but not if you have to remove a drive shaft

By the way for anyone angry at the Big T for the shenanigans involved in the rear e-locker....

To achieve rear e-locked mode with only RWD, you would first need to remove the rear drive shaft, then activate FWD switch, then remove the front drive shaft, and finally re-connect the rear drive shaft. Then you should be able to conduct hooligan drift business.

Push a button and we are good to go! Never been a fan of the electric locks from the dealer. When you install your own at least you know how the way they work is the way you installed them
