Since the search function on this forum sucks I'll just ask. Is there any reason to buy the hub kit vs just bearings? My truck has 317k on it and I know the bearings are done. I just bought that rear bearing puller/installer thingy posted in my rear wheel bearing thread so I wanted a little input before shopping RA.

    Heres what I'm thinking:
    Rear bearing/seal kit
    Rear shoes
    Front hub kit

I'm about to redo everything I can on the front suspension, so would it be better to get all of it together and do everything at once? Plus I need a new steering rack too. Ugh, it never ends...

I can't help with the bearings but I know you don't want to order some of those front suspension parts from Rock Auto. Everyone says you can't go aftermaket on the ball joints. Get OEM ball joints from Cool Springs Toyota and maybe throw in some tie rods while you're at it. I think the tie rods were $42 each when I bought mine.

People seem to like the reman'd steering racks from ebay that come with a lifetime warranty.

Yeah, LBJ I was gonna do oem, pretty much moog everything else. I was thinking rackdoctor for the steering rack. Do I need new upper and lower control arms for a rebuilt suspension?

I know when PHM had his redone he left the uppers alone but replaced the lowers. The lower control arms are the only thing I havent replaced. At your mileage you're probably do.

What coilovers are you going with?

No coilovers yet, I didnt get as much as I thought from my student loans. I have shitty monroe shocks and I "think" factory springs. I've been eyeballing the OME $900 something lift though...

Nah factory springs won't work with the Monroe's. You probably have what they call the "Quik Strut". That's the Monroe's I had before. They do suck.

Yeah, I got just the struts. Had the stealership put them in and fix my abs light and a few other things. That was 5 or 6 years ago.

    Oh boy :D

To do bearings you gotta tear it all down anyway. I agree with Toyota on LBJ and Moog all else. For bearings I would go Koyo or Timken (which I did). I don't know what parts would be different for 4wd when it comes to all that goes in the hub.

Upper and lower arms depends how your bushings are. Uppers are pretty easy to inspect when you take them off. Lowers are hard to inspect unless they're really blown out. Going by mileage it might be best to swap them. Consider new alignment cams/bolts too.

I redid my whole front end around 220k and the only part that seemed okay, just a bit loose, was the inner tie rods. My steering rack still seems okay too, thought it was leaking but it was just grease from the inner rods.

You're right, it never ends. I think of it this way, throwing +/-$1000 in parts every 200k miles and doing the labor myself so I know it's right beats the hell out of a car payment. I love knowing my front end is brand new.

Hell, I'm already in it for around $2k not including the $2.5k entry price. Sorta. But yeah, I'll just do the rear seals again for now and get pics of all my front end stuff to get opinions later.
