Front End Rumbling Sound

So I just bought this 2010 Tundra 4.6l SR5 and it drives great but every once in a while there is a weird rumbling noise that comes from the front end, sounds like a hit a rumble strip. This noise doesnt last more than 2 seconds and is not constant and no real pattern as to when it happens. I have been trying to figure it out and I think it happens when im feathering the gas peddle. Im no mechanic so I am lost on this one. Any insight to try and help me figure this out would be great.

You may need to raise the truck on jack stands and give the wheels a swing and listen closely to what may be causing the noise.. May be brake related, or may be wheel bearing related, but you wont really know unless you start probing.... If its too much there is no shame in taking it to a local shop and have them check it out.... local mechanics will probably have you wait less time than the typical 4 hour wait at the stealership.

 

Yeah the problem is that the noise only happens maybe once or twice in 20mins of driving and only lasts 1-2 seconds so its tough to figure out. Doesnt happen when im braking or when im accelerating. I was thinking it might be a transmission thing because it seems to be when im feathering the gas. I will probably bring it to a shop but wanted to give them as much informed info as possible.

 

do you have an approximate speed?? say 45-55mph?? may be the starting signs of a bearing... I have a sort of rumbling sound between those speed and lasts about 2 to 5 seconds before it goes away... I have noticed some catch when I've raised the truck and moved the wheels...

 

Might be in that range, I will have to keep an eye on the speed that it happens at. its just peculiar that it doesnt happen when im really giving it gas or when my foot isnt on the peddle. Just when im feathering the gas like its having trouble gearing up or something. Ill have to do more figuring out.

 

Update.
From the searching I have done it sounds like it is the torque converter that is shuttering.
I'll probably just bring it to my local dealer and have them service and flush and check for any other issues surrounding that.

 

Did you find out what was causing the rumbling noise? I just replaced my tires at 45,000 miles and after a few hundred miles, I hear a rumbling noise from the front at 55mph that only last a few seconds at a time.

 

It's worth putting the truck in 4WD to see if that makes the noise go away. You may have a floppy CV axle on the driver's side if the noise isn't present with 4WD engaged.

 

I can't feather the throttle on my 2007 between 35-40mph or so. The driveshaft issue rears its head if I do. It clunks & almost feels like a bump from the back. TSB 0148-11 addresses this I believe.
